You make it look easy! Nice to see someone wearing hearing protection and a respirator.

Thank you. Yeah, I’m old enough to know that if I’m going to see, hear or breathe when I’m 80, I need to protect my eyes, ears and lungs now. Wish I had the same thought when I was younger.

You should have seen it when I got it. 10 years sitting in a field with the back window open. I had to gut it and replace the interior due to mouse damage. Extensive, nasty mouse damage.

My 07 is much worse. And it’s a different animal since it has a fully boxed frame with plenty of holes that let rain, snow, salt and dirt inside. It’s really a poor design… even though it is stronger than a channel frame.

I don't want to put any more money into my '98, but I'm hoping to remove the bed and then the tank to prepare to part out anything I can. Good video for bed/tank removal! It perhaps would have been beneficial to show the frame once the bed was removed to indicate the locations of the bolt holes, right-side-up, just for additional reference sake. In my case, it'll be "if in doubt, just remove the bolt!"

There are only 6 bolts and they're pretty easy to identify from below. But yeah, that'd been a really good idea. Something I could have done in Photoshop in a few minutes. Missed opportunity. Hope your repair goes well.

Yeez man. This is almost like art, but wait, this is art. Way too overkill for me but also- I am not capable also for so good work. Just leaening to welding magic and if I am optimistic - about ten years time I have same skills set 😂. Thanks man, inspairing video

I don’t think the front perches are available for the Dakota. You can get them for the RAM though and, looking at photos, they look like they could be adapted to fit.

No, sadly, I don’t typically do this type of work. I did it on the Dakota because it needed to be done and because I couldn’t afford to pay someone to do it. It took me several weeks to do both rails and I didn’t enjoy it particularly. But it sure is nice to have done.

Working on my 2000 r/t and my question is what kind of steel did you use?
@RobertAdairWorkshop
2 жыл бұрын
Just basic cold-rolled carbon steel. Not quite sure of the composition but it had to be easy to weld. It's probably something like 1018 but that's a guess.

What thickness and alloy of steel are you using for these repairs?
@RobertAdairWorkshop
2 жыл бұрын
Hot-rolled carbon steel. 3/16" bit with lots of thinning on the edges to match. 1/8" would have been better. Something like this (eBay link): www.ebay.com/itm/224948676867
