Very thorough and well thought out review. It would be interesting to see the results when you're out in the wilderness where true wireless signal is weak. I think that would be a better test. Also, you could have saved yourself a bunch of time and just based the results solely on the download/upload speeds because, In the end, that's all that really matters. Decibels and bars are irrelevant. Nice work though! I'll be looking for a booster soon enough when we get our trailer.

In the Microwave World you always want your amplifier at the antenna, cable loss plays a big factor at these frequencies. Solid RF does a good putting the booster at the antenna. On the Sure call I would shorten my cable between the 2 as much as possible how ever mounted. Line of sight is always important also and trees do a good job of attenuating cell signals.

The bouncing effect of the outside antenna is probably an engineer's answer to hitting it on something, like a low hanging branch. Something more rigid is more likely to break &, I imagine, might rip any mounting off (along with some of your roof) with it! Also, one being tucked in the corner, where the metal framing is, might also affect the results. I like the "commercial" type things you guys do! They convinced my husband to get & use the dry oil in spite of not having any slides outs!

Here is some real world information on the Surecall Flare 3.0 We live in the mountains and there is a cell tower a few miles away. I bought an app that measures signal strength; Network Signal Info Pro. Outside at the end of the house closest to the tower, -125 dbm. At first, I ordered the Flare with the omni-directional antenna; no good. Man I tried every possible thing I could think of; putting the antenna up at 35', getting longer coax, repositioning the booster many times. I emailed Surecall and they sent me the directional antenna, a Yagi. I loaded the app on wife's phone. Stood her phone up on dining room table with her tablet's camera pointed at the phone. I set the tablet to Duo video call my phone while up on the roof. I was able to point the new antenna and compare signal strength using the video call. Now I'm in the family room which is about 20' from where the booster is and I'm getting about -88 dbm. That's really nice. We're still 4G here and we're still waiting on Starlink; internet here is Brutal. When we finally get Starlink, I'm going to shoot 12 ga. slugs through the Hughesnet dish. It needs ventilation. I know this video is more about on the go but I'd just wanted to post my experience with SureCall. They're very responsive and quick!

Been looking to buy a cell booster for home. This is the second video I’ve seen where the boosted download signal went down. Plus, I need a 5G compatible booster. Performance-wise how has your internet access been with these while boon docking. I can see the aircraft beacon on top of our cell tower from my house yet it’s 3 miles away and I get one to two bars signal. I want to Zoom with my groups but can’t due to signal instability, I can watch KZitem though even using my phone as a hotspot with my pad.

FYI, Almost all cellular boosters only boost a single channel. To help increase download speeds the providers use multi channels. Boosting a mid level signal or better can slow it down due to the reducing of it to one channel. This does not apply to uploads. Also, individual cell tower performance may vary depending on the amount of traffic, infrastructure, and etc. Imagine all the dynamics involved with boosting or not boosting a strong or weak signal. Boosted signal strength does not always = throughput as you found. This is why boosters usually work best when amplifying a weak or very weak signal.
@bugnobody1039

This is why a lot of techies just use a directional yagi antenna on a pole and a cellular router. These are only to be used when stationary which means that it will have to be stored on the road. Some people buy extendable mast that can go as high as 30 ft and some just attach it to the ye old-style Winegard OTR tv antenna. Unfortunately, this requires research and is not for the tech-phobic. If there is one thing to take away from this comment is don't buy a wifi ranger anything run from them run very fast.

Full disclaimer, I work for SureCall. It boosts 5 bands (which covers almost all cell signals for all of North America--except one of Sprint's bands, but not the main one). It also boosts the signal for multiple phones and carriers simultaneously. Sorry if I misunderstood what you meant by single channel above, but hope that helps.

You would be better off plugging the antenna directly into a hotspot rather than using the repeater. The repeater is likely only boosting a single channel so you are losing carrier aggregation. If you had a dual antenna setup running into a hotspot's multiple antenna ports you will see far better performance boosts.

I notice your outside antennas are mounted above your work area. Try moving the outside antenna towards the front of the trailer to see if that helps. If they are too close the signal coming out the indoor antenna is reduced because of interference with the outside antenna.

Weboost requires antenna separation and assume this was a common requirement for other manufacturers. What does Surecall recommend for antenna placement? Will you be performing this test again once you leave Seattle and get to a remote area?
@roybertalotto6355
4 жыл бұрын
A few points....The bracket the antenna mounts to is designed to "break away" if struck by a tree branch or some other obstacle. The "flimsyness" is a design feature. The Solid RF is EXTREMELY critical on the outdoor antenna being directly above the indoor antenna. And then fine tuning location just inches will improve performance. This needs to be Dry Run at first to be sure location is optimum. Otherwise, great videos!

I work for a major carrier and the DL will be hampered by the amplifier of the boosters. The booster is for UL not DL. The TMA (amplifier on the cell site antenna is for the DL.) But site amplifiers are going away, LTE doesn't use them. 3G did.

@Thejohnnyoshow

all the mounting issues you bring out about solid rf seem valid and make me feel reluctant about it as well. but having the amp closer to the antenna allows for less signal loss, you loss signal strength as it goes though the cable, so if it's still weak when it hits the antenna, it may not make it all the way through the cable, where as if the amp is close to the antenna then even weakest signals are boosted before running through the cable. But so for it seems like its between solid rf or weboost from all the reviews i have been watching. but the things you mention about solid rf do make me think i'm leaning toward weboost. You have not done a weboost comparison yet have you?

Hi David, Good attempt at trying to compare these two boosters. I guess if you are running a channel you need one of these things or just want to be connected as much as possible. Since I am a solo RVr and really don’t mind much when I have no signal, I don’t have a need for one of these. My attitude is I don’t always have to have a connection. Now what about an emergency? Well since I am a hiker often in wilderness where there is absolutely nothing, I use a Garmin InReach satellite text and email communicator. When I am in the woods I up my subscription to unlimited use and if not to a minimum of 40 messages plus I have an SOS button for real life threatening situations. Thank you for giving us all a very thorough review of these two devices. However this video will not be as popular as if Jenny was giving us her cornbread casserole recipe and showing us how to make it. Now that would be a big Yum!!! Good work anyway!

Boosters don’t really increase download speed as this test proofed. But directional Mimo antennas do if connected directly with two wires to a hotspot. I use in my RV one and it increases UP AND DOWNLOAD speed easy by a factor 5-10 if it is a location with a week signal situation. I am too in the suburbs of Seatle. If you guys are nearby we could certainly test and compare your and my setup and see what is working better. My cost factor is only the hotspots and about $80 for antenna and wires.

Curious if you went through the set up process with the SureCall? From what I've read, they suggest 30 ft. between the indoor and outdoor antennas and if the 30 ft. can't be achieved, they gain needs to be adjusted. That's one of the things that draws me toward SureCall vs. the others.

The upload is better with the boosters because they have that big outdoor antenna versus the teeny tiny antenna in your cell phone. And you are right about the download speed. More "stuff" in the stream.

Just an FYI, I've been watching a lot of videos comparing different systems there is a notation in the instructions that there has to be approximately 20 feet distance between the outside antenna and the inside antenna! So the test maybe a little skewed. Im not sure how I'm going to able to mount one of these since my entire trailers only 17 feet long. I did learn something new here that's the inside antenna must be very close to your phone or laptop. My trailer is designed like yours with a bed at one end and living area at the other. I will need a good signal at both ends.
