Well done! Nothing like a good DIY guy and a good fix. I’m currently working on the same problem. The fifth wheel we had before this one had a mechanical drive but it suffered from the same friction problems. I spent so much time trying to fix it, I attached strips of a Teflon plastic to it. Thanks for taking the time to film your fix. May God bless you and your family

I’ve been online searching for a fix. You are the only one that I could find with this method. My slide out came with plastic runner strips on each end but they became ripped off along with the black material exposing the plywood. I think I may try you technique. I like your approach to the problem.

Thanks for the comment. Im sure your already planning to repair the damaged areas before you make the modification. Still dont why they design them to slide against the fabric... makes no sense.

frank scott I’ll keep the spray in the rig for future use. Tomorrow I’ll tackle the kitchen slide with rollers. Too much furniture and trim to pull for flashing fix. + the slight rise in that slide shouldn’t be noticeable with the trim and furniture

More than likely some dry lube on the bottom of the slide may work just as well for you. I chose this route to prevent a buildup of dry lube which could saturate the lining. Hope it works out for you.

Had same problem. Contacted my rv dealer and service manager said wash underside of slide out and the use paraffin wax block to rub under side (fabric). Paraffin wax is used in canning. Run my slide in and smooth as could be.

Thank you for your info. While I like this guys repair method, yours was my first attack at this nagging issue. So I went to Walmart mart, bought 8 sticks, my camper bottom was very clean, and I used about 1/2 a bar of wax on it and doubled up on the obvious wear spots. She’s smooth now. Thanks so much for sharing. My fabric is abrading, so I may have to do the aluminum at some point in the future, but I’m betting keeping it waxed prevents the abrasion. Surely something that should have been covered in new camper delivery, or maybe not, I would have thought I already knew it all anyway.lol

Rollers have a additional plastic track but nothing in the center. That’s where the floor snagged & tore out a 3”x8” section of luan and plastic. I used contact cement to put back in the torn out piece. I then did what you did with the flashing. I’m hoping that will hold the patch in place. Thanks for the video help

My jumping problem didn't come from the bottom where I kept thinking the problem was, but it came from the top slide topper roller that was seizing to the point that it started to pull the track off the top of the motorhome.

Dustin, to be truthful, i cut that small piece out to see what i was up against and how it all was attached. I ended up just leaving that piece out and covering it with the seal.

Pardon the ignorance but wouldn’t that flashing rub on your floor on the inside damaging it? Seems like not raising it up either roller method or somethin else would leave that weight on the house side, digging that flashing into the floor. I’m probably missing something?
@frankscott6054
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I’ve always said the only ignorant question is the one that you don’t ask, lol. With this type of cable slide, BAL Accuslide, the slide room is actually suspended above the floor, held up slightly by the cable tension. That’s why they say not to step on the slide house floor when the room is in the retracted position. I would lift the transition flap and see if there is a slight gap between the slide floor and the house floor before you tackle this. If you have a gap it shouldn’t cause a problem.

@@frankscott6054 ok. Mine is older. 2002 Four winns windsport. Not sure which slide system it has, but as is there’s a lot of pressure on the carpet when sliding in and it’s starting to rub on the body on the outside. Def needs to be raised up. I believe it’s hydraulic but not sure

If you were concerned with the aluminum rubbing the floor you can put a piece of self adhesive loop tape (fuzzy side) material or ultra high molecular weight a.k.a. UHMW material, to keep it from damaging the floor. It won’t do anymore damage than the floor without any mods.

So how it’s working since you installed the aluminum about a year ago
@frankscott6054
3 жыл бұрын
So far so good. I do spray the runners from time to time with a dry silicone lubricant. I have noticed that the slide house is sagging a bit, probably due to cable stretch, and evidently the aluminum runners are now leaving rub marks on the vinyl flooring, which do wipe off. It is my intention to tighten the cables which should correct the rubbing.

Hi Rick, Yes, still working fine. I do spray some dry grease on the runners from time to time. The only thing i've had issues with is some oil residue on the vinyl flooring from the runners when the slide is in and in transit but i attribute that to the cable being too slack when retracted. I just wipe it off with a rag.
