Went to use the cleaning pipe today and the gray end popped off inside my hot water heater. I was so angry but luckily when I filled water up it floated out the hole! I thought I was going to need a new hot water heater scared the crap out of me

Are you supposed to turn off the propane too before draining if you have a gas heater??

Great question. I would think that you would just shut off those that feed into your water heater. To be sure check on what is recommended by your manufacturer. Take care 😊

FYI to all. Instead of putting a plastic plug in the drain, install an Anode Rod to prolong the life of the hot water tank.

You could, but An Atwood water heater does "not" need one. If it came with one, you have a steel tank. Aluminum tanks don't need them. There are brass tank plug's that don't round off as easily. We've all been there, forgetting to release the air valve :). We only forget once, hopping the rocket plug doesn't hit anything, especially if it's a brass plug😆.
