It's spooky season! Reykjavík Grapevine's editor-in-chief Valur Grettisson is here to tell you all about Halloween, the origin of it and its connection to Icelandic traditions.
In other news this week: COVID-19 is on the rise again with 96 cases were found yesterday. Icelandic is now officially a red state according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC). And Icelandic ptarmigan hunters are afraid that the government will ban them from hunting ptarmigan this year, which could upend their Christmas tradition.
Halloween creeps up on us again next weekend, and since this annual celebration of all things ghoulish has become closely associated with candy we thought that we'd give you the chance to win a box of delicious Icelandic confectionery (shop.grapevine.is/collections.... The prize comes complete with a piece of lava from the Geldingadalsgos volcano, and the best news is that-if you win-it won't arrive until after halloween, so you won't have to share your candy with the neighbourhood kids! Just sign up to our newsletter here grapevine.is/newsletter-sign-up/ before 1500 Icelandic time on Friday 29th October, and then enter the competition in our next newsletter. Good luck!
