Another cracking Newcast Josie-Anne, you should definitely go back to Viðey at the end of the year so you can show everyone the amazing Imagine Peace Tower in action. The first time I saw it, I just stopped in awe. I imagine Art could get some stupendous shots of the lights soaring up into the sky. If you make the right offerings to the Old Gods, the aurora may even put in an appearance.

I live in Iceland and would love to adopt a cat. Unfortunately most landlords don't allow it, and it can be difficult to get permission from other apartment owners in the same block. Pets in Iceland can be complicated unless you own your own place 😔

Will a decade-long influx of 35K apartments also have the relieving effect of watering down the existing prices of the housing market? Or is this only a short run treating of the problem? Would the government/voters consider restricting sales prices to say +25% of their currently assessed values as a cost capping solution, and as a within reasonable profit for sellers? Or given some of the expanses of land outside and away from urban areas, can less costly alternative housing models on less expensive parcels be explored as an option, perhaps launching a "new settlement" era?

Gender BS. How many women are in politics is important for you. How many women are in road construction is important for me. This channel is becoming too woke for me. Goodbye.

Valur is informative, engaging, a great story ("news") teller, and a really great host. Josie Anne is all that, but oh so easy on the eyes. The game changer is of course ... ... ... Polly. Polly may be the factor that evens the score.

Thanks for a revealing video. You don't suppose someone could simply learn about the beauty of the island and points of interest that make it worth the trip instead of a lecture on politics and ideology? Based on what you shared there's no real reason to want to go there. Nature's beauty isn't political.

Iceland was the first to govern by a populous group, at a time monarchy "reigned". It took much longer for the world to change.. I expect a similar trend when it comes to women's rights...many other things need to happen for it to be achieved, like understanding or wanting it.

Enjoyed this newscast, thanks Josie and Art. Sorry I can't spell Videy correctly - ( obviously I don't have Icelandic letters on my keyboard) What a lovely, lovely place - so green and fresh.. Good on you Iceland regarding gender equality, that's so very important. Shocked and angered to hear about cats being dumped in the countryside. Bummer. No excuse. Cats are not disposable accessories. Bless you Josie and cheers to all at the Grapevine.

The good news is, 30,000 more housing units will be made available. The bad news is, only 30% of them will be affordable. That is a mystifying statement from the housing authorities! What a lovely island and a lovely day to explore it.

Hi Ro, Yes it is only a few minutes from downtown to the island. In the summer, ferries leave Reykjavík at quarter past the hour from 10:15 with the last departure from Viðey at 18.30. Check the Elding whale watching site for departures. There is a small restaurant on the island if you need food, but you can't stay anywhere overnight.

The Imagine tower of light is turned around on John's birthday on October 9 and turned off on the day of the day he was assassinated December 8. and it is lit all night and day. You selected this place because it’s dark most of the time this time of year and rather there is humid and the light is more visual when its overcast and with some rain or snow. And of course because Iceland is a peaceful country.
