I think Nicole has alot of resentment towards her mother, and therefore she's projecting ALOT onto Malik. Her mother messed up at home, so she identifies heavily with her black side (which is fine). I also think that she's hurt that he's not attracted to her in the way she's attracted to him. Though I think she was wrong in how she expressed herself, I understand why she is reacting this way. With that said, I'm always confused by the very pro-black afrocentric men who then go and date ONLY white women. Nothing wrong with interracial relationships but it's just a bit strange to me that he's NEVER dated a black woman...So Nicole is right about that IMO

His mom is white. Many of the biracial kids I grew up with tended to date the race of the opposite gender parent. So for example, a girl who is biracial with a black dad, would usually date black guys or vice versa if the dad was white. A boy with a white mom and black dad would usually date white girls but hang out with black guy friends etc. Nicole is rude and hateful and needs therapy

Did Nicole forget that she’s half white too? Like she (and Malik) wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for a black guy and a white girl being together lol. This conflict and even Mike and Corals relationship (they just cant get along!! *sarcasm*) speaks to a greater and very real tension within the black community. I think this deeper issue was especially prevalent during this time because black people were being integrated into white american media more and people were actually trying to depict them and not just caricatures of black people. Black women experience racism differently than black men. They experience love differently and relationships completely differently. This is prevalent in the way that Malik befriends Mike and Kevin (two white dudes (one of which literally thought that black people are inherently less intelligent)), while also acting as a representation of afrocentricity, in touch with his culture, and being pro-black. Nicole and Coral, two black women, also identify as being pro-black and afrocentric; However, Malik is able to exist in this duality because he is a man---the clip of Kevin, Mike, and Malik at the bar with girls shows a white woman sitting next to Malik literally touching his hair. If you aren't aware, touching a black persons hair is an act of fetishization and is incredibly demeaning. Black people are not pets. Nicole was resentful because she liked Malik and felt that if Malik could be intimate and date a white women while also confident in his identity, then he could not simultaneously wish to be with her. I think the fact tht he hasnt been intimate with black women is also so reflective of this betrayal. How can you love your culture so much, be with white women, but not also be with black women? Fair question. She mentions in a previous episode that she wants a man who is proud to be black. In a world where you experience constant discrimination, Nicole Coral and Malik are representations of how finding community among people who share parts of your identity that is rejected by society is uplifting. They acknowledge it but this is a nuance that the camera can never truly pick up on or express for viewers. Nicole tries to communicate this to Kevin but obviously is misunderstood. She feels super betrayed by Malik. She also literally says in the episode "America does not see me as a white girl." She is saying that she is discriminated against despite being biracial. I don't believe that Nicole effectively communicated to Malik, and might have projected her expectations onto him, but in the end she had very valid points that I at least expected him to understand. Although Nicole wasn't able to communicate her frustration, I think Maliks role in the confrontation and everyone victimizing him, saying hes just this easy going afrocentric black dude is grounds enough for betrayal as Nicole is now considered the angry and aggressive black girl because no one truly understood where she was coming from... EXCEPT FOR CORAL ofc. Malik was very sweet and definitely easy going but I think that Nicole was saying his aesthetic was performative if he's actually just one of the many black men that can only date white women. I just think this conflict, while it seems to make good authentic and real tv, is way more personal to Malik and Nicole...and at a larger scale reveals a deeper issue within the black community even in 2023...I wish kevin didnt jump in.

Nicole and Coral were the worse ones this season. They were bullies constantly verbally attacking the guys on the show because they had personal problems that they needed to fix. It is none of Nicole's business who Malik chooses to date and I feel bad that he allowed her to say such a thing to him. Then you got Coral jumping in and adding her two corny cents. At the end of the day, it's nobody's business what others were doing. Coral and Nicole didn't even know this man like that to be comfortable enough to try to call him out. God wants us all to be together. Then Nicole's like I have no problem with people dating outside of their race. Yeah, you do because she was making a scene.

Coral and Nicole both had very humble backgrounds and probably received a lot of bullshit for that. Maybe that's something they wanted to evolve from.
