I personally would give the edge to the 580. As you can see in cyberpunk a lot of new titles will lean more towards the 580. The vram buffer will also come in handy.
@ANN1H1LATE89
Жыл бұрын
The 8gb of vram on the 580 is useless as it cannot utilize all of it. Go check other benchmarks of more recent games and you will see even after the card starts to struggle due to more demanding scenarios on the games it nowhere near reaches 8gb utilization. It is the better shader config and memory bus/transfer rate that pushes it ahead in the newer titles

I just posted my RX580 vs GTX1060 comparison last week. Having never used an AMD before I was shocked at how much cheaper it was and in some but not all cases faster than my entire suite of GTX1060s (I have almost every version on hand). In my comparison, I also called it a close tie. The RX580 loses some points for thermal and standalone benchmark performance. Good to see another perspective! Your video quality is top notch. Side note: The MSI OCV1 GTX1060 is not a great version. To see the GTX 1060 operate at it's full potential you would want to try the GAMING X variant.

🤔Did you also notice that the "AMD Drivers are garbage" comments are just crap that people say to to scare others or justify their over spending on nVIDIA? Generally if you question those people you get one of 2 answers, They NEVER Owned an AMD/ATi GPU or if they did when they installed the AMD GPU they had not uninstalled the previous GPU properly.

G'day UBPC, nice comparison on these, as they are so close in performance down here in Australia the RX580 is a no brainer, easily being found for $100-150AUD where as GTX1060 is generally $150-$200AUD when you include shipping. The 1060 doesn't make sense at that price because you can also get the newer & better 1660Ti/Super for $150-$200AUD delivered.
@UltraBudgetPC

Yeah I suppose it differs based your location. In the US most components are more accessible but it's great that you can get better alternatives in your own market.
@shaneeslick
Жыл бұрын
@@UltraBudgetPC It doesn't have anything to do with accessibility as there are always more comparable used nVIDIA than AMD for sale, nVIDIA GPUs are just more expensive New & Used plus even nVIDIA rip us off directly. As an example last year at launch we were at $1USD-$1.48AUD, 4080 ($1100USD MSRP + Tax) but instore + direct from nVIDIA for us it was $2500AUD ($2250 + 10% GSTax), where as RX7900XTX ($1000USD + Tax) was $1789 ($1629 + 10%GSTax), That is a huge difference for what should really be $150AUD. 3000 was worse with mark ups of 2-2.5x USD as we were at $1USD-$1.35/1.37AUD, making AMD a no brainer as they were at about 1.4-1.5x yet nVIDIA still sold out constantly while there was always AMD stock ??? Just to explain the differences in our sales tax to yours, unlike America where States control tax so can vary depending where you live here in Australia it is Federal, we have a Goods & Services Tax (GST) which is 10% on new items & 2nd hand through Registered Businesses, it must be included in the listed price so sometimes depending on the price like the $1789AUD (1629+162.9=1791.9) it can be a little less. For Private 2nd hand sales like Ebay or Facebook MP there is no tax.

I am wondering what additional variables may be effecting your results. In general, when both the cards was launched the nod tended to go to the 1060, now adays the consensus leans toward the 580. Both have been neck and neck for their existence. But I think most people are leaning toward the 580 these days because the drivers have caught up significantly and the extra vram buffer is more meaningful these days.
@UltraBudgetPC

I can't say the exact reason but the RX 580 may just be more optimized for certain newer titles due to its overall configuration and maybe even drivers. The extra ram in the 8gb version is great but for most 1080p gaming it's not really needed. The 2304 stream processor version is the one to go with that will perform the best.

Bought two 1060 3GB cards in 2018 because I needed the dual DVI outs for my office machines. My heavy gaming rig ran a GTX 970 4GB up to a few months ago, when I "upgraded" to a GTX 1060 6GB. I was thinking about an RX 580 for the 8GB of VRAM to replace the 1060 6GB, but your video has made me confident that the 1060 6GB is just fine for my modest gaming needs. I like the lower power usage. For Elite Dangerous and Planet Coaster and No Man's Sky, I don't feel the extra 2GB would be worth the $75USD. Maybe I can aim a little higher for used cards, and or take a closer look at going for a new video card, like an RX 6650 XT. Thanks!

Your findings run counter to my own, I have numerous 580s, but only 1 6GB 1060, and I’ve found the 580 tends to perform slightly better than the 1060. The 1060 does run cooler but rarely runs better in games. I do also have a pair of 4GB 580s and the 6GB 1060 outperforms those similar to the 580 you are using, but my 8GB 580s consistently outperform the 6GB 1060. I guess that just goes to show the differences in different cards. I mostly have Red Devil 580s but I also have an ASUS and gigabyte models as well. My 1060 is an msi model.

If so, which gpu should I use in that scenario? btw, I just discovered your channel and I´m definitely subscribing!

With the i5 6500 a good GPU option in my opinion would be something like the 1050 ti or 1650 (RX 460/560 if you want a cheaper but weaker option) if you stick with you're PSU. Keep in mind you may be CPU bound in some titles but if you did end up getting the i7 you'd be set to go. If you got a higher wattage PSU, I'd go for something like the RX 470 or 570.

So that really depends on the approach you take. You could get all new parts for a newer but lower spec'd build, or all used parts for a more powerful system that comes with any risk associated with buying used. Personally, I would do a mix of both. What I would do with a budget like that is get a modern CPU like the i5 12400f (with stock cooler) for around $130 to $150 and a compatible LGA 1700 motherboard for around $100. Both can be had new for pretty decent prices. Next, I would target 32 GB of DDR4 ram that runs at at least 3200 MHz. Right now both new and used DDR4 is pretty cheap and I still think it will be plenty viable for time to come despite DDR5 being available. 32 GB will usually run you anything from $40-$60 on the lower end from what I have seen. For the GPU, I would look at used options for around $250-$300 like the RX 6650 XT, 6700 XT, 6750 XT, RTX 3060 Ti, or even RTX 3070. These are all last gen cards that are amazing value right now. If you buy new, the 6700 XT would be my pick with it's 12 GB of VRAM and affordable price just over $300. For Power supply, I'd recommend a unit with an 80+ Gold Rating at at least 650 watts but personally I'd go with 750 watts since it's the sweet spot for having an upgrade path. Buying a power supply new is the best bet for a higher end system and usually it'll be around $100 for a good unit. For storage, I'd start with a 1 TB NVMe which will usually be around $40-$50, if you have extra budget you could get one with more storage. Finally, for case, I would just pick the one you think looks best and is compatible with your other components. Generally I don't like spending more than $100 on a case unless you really like how one looks. Obviously, there are many other ways you could do this. Buying more used parts and even some older components will allow for more savings but less future proofing. For example, one direction I would also recommend is getting a used Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and a solid AM4 B550 ot X570 which would also perform extemely well. This is just the approach I would take right now after thinking about it for a pretty short time. If anyone else has recommendations, definitely comment them.

If I had to guess, I would assume in some titles, the 3200g would be the limiting factor but maybe only as much as 10%. Either card, the RX 580 or 1060 would perform similarly with the R3 3200g. it's really worth noting that the GTX 1060 3GB has a significantly different performance than the 6GB version, with fewer cores, lower clock speeds, and so on. it's a bit misleading that they're both called the GTX 1060, when really one should be a 1060 and the other a 1060 Ti or something. for forza 5, i've found that going in the open world at high speed can show a GPU's weakness in memory management as it streams in textures (or fails to), and emerging from tunnels into daylight can really hit fps hard on some GPUs. the 8GB of VRAM on the RX 580 can sometimes be a factor, but at 1080p it's not a big detriment to "only" have 6GB imho.
@alexg9601

I have the theory that the GTX 1060 3GB was going to be the actual 1060, however when the RX 480 launched (the 580 was a refresh of RX 400 series) NVIDIA needed an answer to the midrange segment/market, or else AMD was gonna eat their lunch. In hopes of stopping AMD from getting away with the midrange and entry level, they launched the 1060 6GB (probably meant to be a 1060 Ti) and kept the 1060 3GB as a lesser model of the card with misleading and scummy marketing (classic NVIDIA), explaining why there wasn't a GTX 1060 Ti
@chazbotic
Жыл бұрын
@@alexg9601 maybe. the GP106 is the same between the 3GB and 6GB, but with portions fused off the silicon in the 3GB, so its unknown if it would have been possible to reactivate them as fuller featured "1060 ti" parts. i would think due to how close the 6GB and 3GB versions were released, that the GP106-400 could be cut down into the GP106-300 and additional GP104 and GP107 parts were cannibalized to keep NV's market segment from evaporating under AMD's Polaris refresh. Pascal has all kinds of variations of GP cores being used in the mid and low ranges to meet demand since a cheap chip that sells is better than an expensive part that remains unsold.
