More soul in his little finger than any of us journeyman guitar players can ever hope to achieve with all our pedals and electro-bollocks.

This song is marvellously interpreted, as always with Ry Cooder on guitar or on other instruments.. Beautiful colors on stage... And this short video is very well filmed. Thank you so much, Ry ; and thank you "RealLive 2", too.

Is this Open"D"?
@chriscampbell9191
Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think it's in Open D. I can play along with it, generally, and my acoustic is in Open D. And Ry usually played this track in Open D (as you can see in the famous 1973 BBC video on YT).
When we saw him play this guitar on tour, he said he bought it on Reverb, where he spends "a lot of money"! I am quite familiar with vintage Premier amplifiers, and in fact he had a Premier amp onstage with him, but I didn't know that Premier manufactured guitars or had instruments manufactured and branded for them. (PS, his other amps were a small tweed Fender, like a Princeton perhaps, and a pair of Standel amps, plus the Green Man preamp).

Although not what Ry is playing, Gibson made a 3/4 size ES125 that would serve as well. No cutaway, one P90 pickup. Roy Rogers played one.

* Where, when recorded???? * And who can ID the guitar??? * It looks like a 3/4 scale, student model, for kids, from the early/mid 60s. It's hard to tell the brand from the headstock, which was well-hidden by a pre-amp or effect box all during the song. Premier is famous for making low wattage tube amps that are especially prized by harp players for their tube-driven distortion. * It may be a Bantam model.... does the "Bantam" name indicate a small size guitar? According to Vintage Guitar Price Guide 2020, they go for between $1225-1625 if it's a deluxe (fully bound, seems like that's what this is). * "Most acoustic instruments were made by United Guitar Corp. in Jersey City, NJ... Around 1964-65 their Custom line guitars are assembled with probably Italian bodies and hardware, Japanese electronics, possibly Egmond necks from Holland. By 1974-75, there were a few Japanese-made guitars, then Premier brand goes into hiatus."

@@milkcow Oh mon dieu... But it's not very used, instead of, we say other admiration words, the most important is the intonation, admiring, exclamatory (and surprised) tone. The choice of words (often ambiguous words) is extensive. Some are a bit coarse, of course, but I think that it doesn't really matter. (If I write language fault, you can rectify it).

Hard to do slide harmonics? Not for brozman!
@goodun2974

Bob Brozman had fantastic technique; but unfortunately he approached playing guitar not from the standpoint of making music and communicating with people, but as more of a vaudeville act. Sometimes less is more, as Ry aptly demonstrates in this performance. I find myself unable to truly enjoy Brozmans's playing because it's like he's turned up to 11 all the time. I do, however,, own Brozman's book about the art and history of National Resophonic guitars, which is stunning.
