My son is autistic. What it says about things affecting us, but not them, is 💯 spot on. Isaiah (my son) was in the 10th grade, and it was the last day of school in Indiana before Christmas break. I need to say he can’t tell time or read. He had slept in our room on a pallet on the floor for some reason, by our bed that night. My husband just so happen to wake up with heartburn and noticed he didn’t have to step over Isaiah. That being said it’s pretty common for him to move to multiple places to sleep throughout the night. My husband went to the bathroom and on his way smelled fresh baked cookies. He woke me when he couldn’t find him, we woke our daughter too. Isaiah had made cookies (the pull apart kind) and even left us some lol! The cookies were for his class party in the morning. I took off to head to the police station and had to pass the school to get there. Also, coldest night of the year so far. Temps were in the low 30s. So, headed to the police station and I get to the school (3 blocks from our home) and there, standing by the front doors was Isaiah! He was all bundled up, had his little gift bag for the gift exchange, had another Christmas bag with his freshly baked cookies too! He was there waiting on the bus. He would ride a bus from our school to a school a few miles away with special needs classes. I pulled up, had him get in the car and took him home. Isaiah laid down between his Dad and I, he was so cold, I just wanted to warm him up. Anyway, Isaiah got there well over 4 hours early. He would have NEVER left that spot, waiting on the bus, for fear he’d miss the bus. No matter how cold he was, or how dark. He would have stood there in the freezing cold till the bus showed up. Still to this day he with stands so many things that we can’t.

@@trip2belize He is absolutely amazing! He is 22 years old now, and still home with us. He can be really hard at times, like busted out 4 windows on our home, 4 on our car, my phone, and his Dads nose all in one night. But that was years ago. Now days when he gets upset he usually just slams our doors. We live in an old house and our back and front doors don’t work or lock properly but they’re way too expensive to replace! So we make due and deal with it. Overall he has the heart of an angel 😇 Also, I’m from a tiny town called Crothersville, about 25 miles north of Louisville. The small town is what has helped us throughout Isaiah’s journey of growing up. Everyone knows everyone. One time he had a really bad behavior. He was around 19 years old, standing on our front porch butt naked. One of our officers pulled up, no lights as not to scare him, jumped up on the porch and guided him inside. No hesitation whatsoever. He was upset over his new fish tank he couldn’t put together, hook up. The officer had him go take a shower and get cleaned up and while Isaiah was in the shower the officer got the tank working!

Thank you! My son never liked "tight" spots, but i know most do. My son did however seek water. It amazed me how my son and water were like magnets. I wouldnt see it, hear it, know it was there, and my son would run and we'd find him by water. It used to freak me out. I quit trying to figure out how it happens a long time ago. I just know it DOES happen. Thats why i usually say - check every water source, no matter how big small. No matter if you think its gross and the person would never go in the water - CHECK IT. Ive seen my son run off, and him be making his way into some nasty swamp water when we found him. Its like they arent in control any more. They are just doing, and not thinking about why or how. I was one of those mommas that had a leash on my child when he was old enough to not need it. But ppl would rather stare, be sh×tty instead of just asking polite questions, so they can learn.

I do not blame the family for staying clear of social media, there are so many arm chair detectives out there, and others that seem to have no filter when it comes to posting on social media, they do not need all that encompasses while searching for Ryan. I hope the school has made upgrades, whatever they need to be, when our son was in elementary school, there were a couple of students that were on the Autism spectrum, and they had EA (Educational Assistants) assigned to them, those children were never on their own. Those EAs were angels, they worked so hard with those students, one changed from night to day by the time he aged into high school.

@Squires Castle not necessarily. Some air systems can dehydrate bodies very quickly, mummifying them. There was a case last year where the body of a man missing for 20 years was found in the back area of the grocery store where he’d worked. People would take their breaks on top of the fridges and he, during a mental health episode, evidently went to his job, got on top of the fridge and fell behind it and was stuck between the back of the fridge and the wall. Coworkers still used that area to take breaks, feet away from him and no one noticed anything. Industrial strength dehumidifiers and venting systems can drastically change the way things decay :/

This is really scary... if hiding from family has garnered him attention, and he has this great admiration for law enforcement, it isn't hard at all to imagine he desired the same attention from police and connected those dots. I wonder, since the family was able to check the browsing history, if they had also checked for visited links from such searches or even just the top results? It could provide insight into where the kid decided to hide. My nephew is autistic and the medication he takes helps him become a little more grounded and manageable. I'm bringing this up because perhaps something like that is going on here and that the medication is not more directly related to physiological health. I hope this is the case. Keep hope! Autistic people are often considered broken and vulnerable, but you might be surprised how resourceful they can be. Lots of cases of autism have a correlation with higher than average intelligence. Often significantly higher.

The key here is that Ryan did NOT wonder. He went directly home. If he was being groomed by someone he knew in the complex that convinced him to leave school they could have told him to avoid being spotted by police because as this person would have known that police officer would have wanted to know why he was not in school or with a parent. And that’s why he search how to hide from police because he took it literally as they said he would take things literally. Especially if he never left school before he probably wouldn’t have known that he’d be sticking out like a soar thumb unless someone put that thought in his head.

Wow I'm really impressed with how the police and neighbors and searchers are handling this case. I have a 9 year old son with high functioning autism and once when he was 7 he walked out the front door without saying a word and disappeared for about an hour. You talk about being worried sick. I cannot imagine the agony this poor family is going through. No judgement here that's for sure. They need help, not speculation and rudeness.

Sex offenders in the complex? His computer searches and his disappearance may not be connected. He may have just wanted to go home if school was bumming him out. A neighbor notices Ryan hanging around, and once learning that Ryan is unable and access his own apt, the person offers to let Ryan bide his time in theirs. This is solvable, and I hope it's sooner than later.

great point. He may have planned to leave school early and thought that would get him in trouble with the police, hence the internet search. If he was captured on camera near his apartment then it does seem feasible he walked back but was unable to get in as no one was home. From there is the mystery. He may have wandered off, saw the police car and thought he was in trouble so hid, then walked away somewhere to wait it out and maybe got stuck. I hope they've searched small and narrow spaces like tunnels...

I would even talk to the mean kids at the he school. Sadly I have seen bully’s talk kids into doing things they wouldn’t. A family member said ryan is mission driven so if someone dared him or said oh you won’t do it, I think he might have tried. Truancy officers could be the cops he was trying to avoid. My heart breaks for Ryan and his family I pray that he comes home safe.

I feel so sick that the community+true crime community has made it to where families are too scared to speak up or even talk to the media/public because of how other families and loved ones of missing people are treated. I don't blame them at all for being guarded about speaking to the public as I've watched people be torn apart because they've either said the wrong thing, using the past tense, or didn't look worried enough, ect. We need to do better and we need to chill the f out. The public and true crime community think that they know all when really all they're doing is bullying a family that really need all the encouragement and sympathy. No wonder they don't wanna talk to the public, I don't think I would either.

I've been trying to stand up for Summer's family since the 3rd or forth day and tell people let's wait and see . But some of what I have seen is vicious. I said a few things I found suspicious at first but then saw some photos and video of her and her mom that changed my mind. I was convinced for a couple weeks they were totally innocent. Now I am just sitting on the fence pretty much keeping my mouth shut. We won't know until we know. This boy is a different story. He left school. Parents are not suspect here to me at all. A stranger maybe .

If he has been missing as long as he has been, I doubt it would be voluntarily at this point. How would he get food and water, etc. The poor family must be frantic and the poor young man must be in difficulty. Also, the fact that the umbrella--which meant a lot to Ryan--was found near that dumpster is very worrisome.

I can't imagine anything more terrifying as a parent. Everyone on the spectrum is different, but I know my child won't answer when he's called for, and not only will go without food and water if not reminded when focused, but also has difficulty determining that he's hungry or thirsty. As far as the mother not appearing to the public, I don't know if I would be able to breathe let alone make a coherent statement if it was my child.

This doesn’t seem like Summers case yet to me. I pray he will be found soon! And if anyone sees/saw him I hope they don’t take advantage of him! My older brother is on the spectrum and I’ve seen some heartless things done to him! Maybe check even drainage ditches, creeks and sewers? Underground search makes me wonder if he may had literally tried? Is there a railway system? Often people try and hide in boxcars and go unnoticed. I will keep him in our prayers! Thank you for keeping his story out there! I bet the family sure appreciates this! Well done! 🙏🏻❤️👍🏻

Good for those people who think THEY can let it just roll off their backs when they're attacked, called names and accused on social media in addition to the fear for their child/loved one. I'm introverted and just the thought of talking in front o a camera makes me feel anxious. I probably would act and talk differently than I normally (without having to focus on just getting through the day) do. I also don't think being a sobbing mess just to appease strangers online would be of much help. Some armchair detectives seem to have a manual on 'How to Act & What to Say in Interviews When You Have a Missing Loved One' - and if the families don't follow it, they are 'suspicious' or 'don't care', etc., and the witch hunt starts. I hope people listen (and take to heart) to the part of the video where John reads Ryan's sister's statement she made on FB. They were *advised* to stay off social media, which I can totally understand. They are HUMAN BEINGS, they have feelings and they're hurting. I hope with all my heart that Ryan is found soon.

A young teenage boy, nonverbal, autistic, went missing in the Australian bush last year in freezing temperatures. Luckily he was found. I was struck at the time by how sensitively the search was conducted - the searchers were told to be quiet and calm, sing his favourite song instead of calling out, and no cheers or applause when he was found. Around the same time another autistic teenager went missing from near his home ... and showed up 250 kilometres away! He was determined to go back to school (residential I presume) even though we were in lockdown, and that's where they found him.

Questions: (1) Was Ryan allowed to play out? Did he have friends he could go out and meet, unsupervised? Would he have ever visited that lake area without family members? - I'm thinking he may have prepared a tunnel/hide and it has collapsed. (2) If there's no "smell" (Dear God. I hope not), and there is a family member he would always answer, can that person go to where the dogs are hitting and call for him? (they may just be scent dogs, not cadaver dogs). I really don't think this sweetheart is dead. I can't imagine what the family are going through. I had an escaping relative wth 'sundowners'. It's an awful, awful feeling. I pray he is found and home, safe, soon 💐

Since they found those searches he did, I hope they watched some of the videos that come up under those phrases. There’s one uploaded right around the time he went missing by a YTer (some kid named Preston) that’s popular with kids, I wonder if he watched that video in particular or any of the others that come up. The fact that he made those searches is so scary. He must have thought it would be fun, that he would be playing a little game like these social media influencers do in their videos. He was smart but I don’t think he understood this would turn into what it’s turned into, or how risky a little boy that age being out in the world like that is. He was pretty tall for his age, he probably hid somewhere like a storm drain, basement in an abandoned home, burrowed somewhere in the woods or a hole/depression in the soil, and either got stuck, lost, trapped in wherever he hid. There’s of course the chance he was picked up, but if he was already in a mode where he was going to be dodging out of sight and playing a little hide and seek kind of game, I wonder if a creep would have even seen him to abduct him. It’s obvious the family isn’t involved. Sadly this probably won’t be closed for a while, until his remains are finally located probably on accident by a worker or hiker. I don’t think he could have lasted this long out there by himself. It’s very likely he is deceased already and waiting to be found and brought home 🙁

The searches on the web were actually done on the computer at his moms house that the cops were told " he had used while he visited her." Mom's boyfriend and herself used that computer too. I've met his mother she is either faking it or she is nuttier than a squirrel. There is a reason his sister had custody of him. The boyfriend of the mom is definitely involved but no body or proof

@@cindypearson6280 Very interesting info, thank you. I would really like to think that he is safer (relatively) somewhere with family that is hiding him than the alternatives. I feel awful for those searching for him regardless, but at least this would mean that he was still alive. If he was abducted, it almost had to be by someone who was already aware of his special needs. When my autistic nephew has an episode then it would be impossible to conceal him, and the common denominator across the autism spectrum is an upset at changes to routine. Not sure of his severity, but I would think that a stranger would set him off almost immediately. I simply cannot see how anyone else would be able to hide him from the attention of others (especially for this long). I fear the worst, but I'm trying to take a positive angle on it. Perhaps he is with someone the mother knows.
@cindypearson6280

I hope he is found alive but no matter the outcome wish for the family to have closure because I imagine not knowing is probably way worse. In my opinion the LEs didn't do the searches they should have as soon as they found out about the web searches. Web sluths should be brought on when the net is involved. The LEs only have so many resources and time to do what "we" can do for them as far as net searches. Not saying they should listen to all the crack pots but maybe hire a few qualified part timers to get on the case with them. I know that some departments don't have the budget so they could also use students in college or something like that to use for credits or something. I know LEs don't like sharing case info but that's why backgrounds and other checks should be done first. Idk maybe just a thought.

Update mother filled a petition to have her son declared dead. That way she can file a lawsuit against the school which she feels is responsible for hers sons disappearance. Judge denied her claim so with the statue of limitations ending soon she won’t be able to claim anything after the statue of limitations has come to an end. Not sure if this is the proper thing to do. But I guess his parents want the school to be found liable. With a child who has a certain amount of disabilities you would hope that the school would keep a close eye on the students and it sounds like they didn’t very sad. 😢

My best friend has a high-functioning Autistic 13-year-old. I could see this being her. She has run off before. Unfortunately ,the police here are not as understanding here. I can understand why the daily ay does not speak out. people need to realize how horrid it is to have a child go missing. It is one thing when you know that they have the mental capacity to know what to do if they get into trouble. For someone who may not trust strangers to go to them and ask for help is completely different. This family may be too distraught to speak publicly.
