What a brilliantly truthful review, thank you, some great detail. I like Ryobi and have a few of their tools, and was considering buying a jigsaw, and you’ve helped me make up my mind. I do a little DIY and wood turning and find Ryobi perfect for my needs; my tools don’t have a hard life, but Ryobi works for me. Liked & subscribed. Mike

Hi. Great informative video and good tip about the down cutting blades 👍🏻 Just one quick question though if I may ? Has it got the capability for dust extraction? Most of my other power tools have so would be nice to have the option on this good looking Jigsaw. Cheers for now and keep up the good work 🛠🪚

Hi thanks for your comment, no the one I have doesn't have dust extraction, it looks like the more expensive version R18JS7 does though (although oddly it doesn't state it in the description). I found it on the Ryobi EU website here: uk.ryobitools.eu/diy-power-tools/sawing/jigsaws/#!/1/

Mine stopped working but light comes on, the blade holder seems to have seized, any ideas? Thanks
@oldmanwith
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, does it make any sound or anything when you pull the trigger? If it's totally dead apart from the light it sounds like the same as my first multitool did. That was working fine, I used it and put it down, then picked it back up and it didn't work. I guessed it had blown an internal fuse or something. In fairness I'd been using it quite hard when it stopped. It was less than a year old, I got onto Amazon where I purchased it and they sent me a new one next day. So, if it were me I'd follow one of two paths: 1 - new tool? - claim the warranty. 2: Old tool? Strip it and see if I can salvage it. One final note, I just checked mine and if the blade is at the top of it's stroke I can't pul it down which also gives the impression it's jammed but I know it isn't. Good luck

how loud is this saw?
@oldmanwith
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, difficult question. I’ve just watched the video back again and I’m fairly sure I didn’t turn the sound of the saw down (I do this in the mitre saw videos because they’re loud) So I’d say what your listening to is “real life” I recorded it on my phone on a short tripod so the phone was fairly close to my head and a couple of feet (450mm ish) away from the saw. I’m not sure that any of that helps but it may give you an idea.

Does it matter? lol, just use some kind of ear protection if you are sensitive to sound. ;)

If I am shortening a hollow door which cut # would you recommend on this saw?

Hi Frank, depends on how the door is finished and if you have the possibility to sand or plane it after. I’ll put a blog post up to explain and place a link here when I’ve done it (likely tomorrow)

Would this be ok too cut a hole into the side of a van to install a window?
@oldmanwith
9 ай бұрын
Hi yes for sure it will do that (pretty much any jigsaw would work). Put some masking tape or similar down first to a: mark out your cut and b: stop the metal base from scratching the paint. Get some metal cutting blades. Wear some goggles and maybe some gloves because you’ll get hot chippings coming off. You might want some ear protection as well because cutting steel sheet can be LOUD!! And like the old guys say, measure twice, cut once. Good luck 🤞 Oh and if your jigsaw has a pendulum action turn it off 👍🏻

Not quite sure how to answer that... I have 10 fingers, or 8 and 2 thumbs for the purists. Or was it a question aimed at highlighting a perceived health and safety issue?

A bit cheeky they don’t supply a battery with new tools
@oldmanwith
2 жыл бұрын
Seems to be pretty standard across all the makes Andy, most of them you CAN buy with the battery but you have to go to a dealer. (Or Amazon) rather than a big box store depending on what tool it is. I started with the drill driver that i got as a full kit with 2 batteries on special (Homebase I think) . Then I got the jigsaw. Then I got a small circular saw as a kit with a battery. Over time I then added the other tools, a fast charger and a couple of non-oem batteries (the ones that people say will explode so I never leave them charging unattended). If you’re thinking of buying its well worth putting some thought into who’s battery platform gives the range that suits you best and then shopping around for a deal.

I found it cheap and nasty. If you buy a professional jigsaw you will find yourself taking on more projects
@oldmanwith

I’d agree it certainly isn’t pro level but for me it does what I need and the bigger issue is committing to a battery platform that I could afford, I’d have gone all Makita if I could but the difference in overall cost for all the battery tools I have would be a killer for me. What did you get instead and what is better about it?
@melb5996
Жыл бұрын
@@oldmanwith funny enough, a Makita 110v 750w slow start with light. Obviously I had to buy the 110v power supply as well. I bought this about 22/24 years ago at around £350 ( a lot of money I know) I mainly used it to build room sets when I was a photographer so I wasn’t really a professional woodworker however it was a great investment (less than £20 per year) and it still works perfectly today. Obviously it can’t be compared with a cordless one ( if that’s essential ) but I’m guessing the cordless Makitas are very good? My point was that it was so accurate and easy to use that I found myself tackling more adventurous projects than I thought I was capable of. ( I do have a Ryobi garden strimmer though) 👍😁
