I was thinking "Kapustin and Sakamoto are my favorite contemporary composers, well in terms of composers who are still alive it's Sakamoto." just a few days ago...
I used to play this song to my mom. She loved all songs from him, but this one was special to her. Ryuichi Sakamoto is a genius.

+Andrew Houlyn I could only sing for my mum before her passing early last year. I wish I had your musical talent/skills to play the violin for her then, alas defectum disciplinae. :)
We will miss you, Dearest Ryuichi. You have earned your wings... You always had them, and we always felt them and heard their flutter in our hearts.

It amazes me every time I listen to music created by Japanese musicians, whether it is a simple solo piano or solo guitar music or music involving an orchestra. Japanese pieces have their own unique feelings in their melodies and so you can just tell if they are from Japan just by listening to them. Very different from European music in terms of immediate sensations, but just as beautiful. J

You welcomed me and my two children after your London concert i bow and thank you for the memories R.I.P Sir.
My husband discovered Ryuchi, first from his love the YMO and later his solo ventures. I walked down the aisle to the Energy Flow on my wedding day. We travelled to see Sakamoto in Paris in late 2011 performing with Morelenbaum. I truly hope that he is able to be win his fight against such an ugly disease.
