In 1979, Finland bought three "S-125 M1 Petsora" anti-aircraft missile batteries from the Soviet Union. In Finland it was named "Ilmatorjuntaohjus 79" (ITO 79), the NATO designation was "SA-3 GOA".
S-125 is technically a very interesting weapon system. Based on rudimentary electron tube technology, it was very versatile. There is a reason why it was the S-125 that was the first heavy anti-aircraft missile system in many countries, and why the 60-year-old weapon is still in service.
The will be two separate videos about S-125 Petšor. This one covers the technology, the next video will look at its history in Finland.
Experts from the Air Defence Museum have contributed to the video. Thanks to the Air Defence Museum for their help: ilmatorjuntamuseo.fi/en/
