Absolutely marvellous. Many shots of places I had never seen on film previously, such as Shoscombe and the tunnels from the train. I am a devotee of this line, which i first travelled on on The Pines from Manchester in the 50s and early 60s until the train was rerouted. So it has many special memories even after all this time. Everywhere was recognisable because of the clarity of the video and I particularly liked the extended coverage of the rail tours and the Merchant Navy, not of course strictly allowed on this line. And just like I remember it, the sun shone.

Also.. 34057 and 34006 look in such pristine condition in this video.. Hard to believe just a year later they'd both be sent for scrap

Wonderful especially the seeing the freight workings by S & D 2-8-0s at the end. Also good to see Johnny Walker at Broadstone.

Amazing film, most of the quality is so good I’m wondering if the anonymous lensman shot it on 16mm film. Can anyone put names to the crews?

The BTP wasn't so bothered about people walking all over a working railway back in the 60s

Closing the S&D was a criminal act. When are we going to prosecute these criminals? 🤣

Unfortunately, two of the main culprits (Beeching and Mr Ridgeway Marples. . .not interested unless it runs on rubber tyres) are not answerable to us now!! 😢

It's happened, nothing can be done about it. Anyway some parts of the S&D survives in the Preservation Era at Midsomer Norton.
