Participatory varietal selection (PVS)
Participatory varietal selection (PVS) is an inclusive breeding exercise that involves rice producers in the selection and identification of the right variety for the right environment. PVS is also an important feedback mechanism on the needs and preferences of rice growers and consumers that guides the next generation of rice varietal development. AfricaRice has adopted PVS as a standard protocol to provide rice growers an opportunity to interact and co-develop the new varieties. Regular PVS exercises have contributed for the efficiency of rice breeding program in delivering relevant varieties while it also ensures quick and large scale adoption of the new varieties.
