(Ethylene - Cyclohexane - Cyclopentane).
The empirical formula is the simplest integer ratio of the compound's atoms that can exist. It is the final number that we get in a simplified form for the element's atoms. The empirical formula must be whole numbers, not fractions.
To get the initial formula, first we calculate the number of moles in each element, then we must get the number of atoms, and this is done by calculating the number of moles of each atom and then dividing it by the lowest value of the number of moles.
Steps to get the initial formula
Carry out quantitative analysis, by measuring the proportion of each element and the atom that make up the molecule
Calculate the number of moles, using the following equation: mass of the element divided by molar mass
The resulting numbers are divided by the smallest number, in order to get the simplest numerical ratio that can be obtained expressing the number of moles.
The molecular formula, the real numbers, or the real law is the formula that expresses the number of atoms in each element of the compound and one molecule, and the prime formula can be similar to the partial formula, and sometimes the partial formula is a multiple of the prime formula, for example:
Of the compounds in which the initial formula is equal to the partial formula: (MgCl2, KI, AgCl).
Among the compounds in which the initial formula differed from the partial formula: (Ethylene - Cyclohexane - Cyclopentane).
How to get the partial formula
Calculate the multiples = the molecular mass of the compound / the molar mass of the initial formula
Calculate the final ratio of the partial formula, by using the following equation: Molecular formula = number of times of multiplication x initial formula.
