Coupled pendulums
Two simple pendulums (consisting of a thread and a small Pd-sphere) are joined by a horizontal thread. The initial energy given to the first pendulum is gradually transferred to the second (via the thread). Then the energy "goes back" and the phenomenon repeats until it stops due to friction and air resistance. With Tracker 5.1.3 software we record the movements of the two spheres and we see that their oscillations have the form of beats. Each sphere performs two oscillations simultaneously: its own natural oscillation and the oscillation imposed (through the horizontal thread) by the other sphere.
