Hello DeShon, thank you for this training for SharePoint, it’s a amazing. I’m new to that but as I know web development, your videos help me understand a lot of stuff. So thank you 🙌🏾 I was reading the trail regarding the error with the publishing. I will try all the advice of both of you and see how it will go. Cheers

Hay DeShon Clark , this is the best SharePoint Video I have ever seen, love your work .. and keep it up I need your help on a SharePoint solution. I want to add a count-up timer in a SharePoint Task list, which can give us the amount to time we spent, just by clicking Start & Finish buttons. Hope to get a positive response from you, Sir. Thanks

Wow! thank you for the feedback. I really do appreciate it. Your requirement is very interesting. It would be messing to try this on the list itself. You may be able to accomplish this using PowerApps with a custom form, but I am not sure how to get the timer piece in PowerApps. Yes, you can save this to the site column on the list item, but not sure about the "clock" piece. For SPFx you can accomplish this, and have all of the control needed to make it work as you desire. You may already have this, but here is an idea of how: In your custom web part 1) use the Web Part Property to allow the admin to specify which list will have the task 2) on the web part UI, allow the end user to select which task (maybe your restAPI query will only grab the current user's tasks sorted by last modified) 3) for the selected task, grab the field that is holding the "actual time" 4) display a button for Start/Stop (this would need to function as a toggle) 5) When they click Stop() - append the elapse time to the "actual time" column for that list item Very very interesting requirement. Let me know how it goes....I may try to implement this as well a shoot a video.

@@DeShonClark Thanks for the idea. I tried to make this in InfoPath, I added 2 buttons, which show current time, it works fine in the form, and it worked very well in SPO for 30 minutes. But after some time, SPO show same time in both columns !! I don't know why ? I would love to see a solution from you, as I searched the internet for months, but didn't find any solution.

Hello Deshon, hope you are doing good! all your videos are really good. I have a question if we close the Visual Studio and reopen it then we again need to create a profile to connect visual studio to SharePoint site to make changes?
@DeShonClark

Thanks for watching, I'm not 100% of the scenario where visual studio would require you to create a profile every time it's open. I know when you create a publishing profile, there is a special file that gets created... I wonder if this is not being saved for whatever reason.

Great stuff. I would be interested in learning how you would deploy to production. I.e. Powershell script to set configuration that you would otherwise have to do manually. Thanks.

Roberto Navarro very good question, in the past we used Sharegate, and meta logics. Powershell would also work as well... anything that can move over content from one environment to the next.

Hi DeShon, I tried but as soon as I published I cannot access the site any more, when I create a new site I cannot access the new site under the same manage path, is there anything that change when published the master page? also I did this in sp2016 using the 2016 folder from the solution i download from your site,. I created another managed path and when I created a new site collection works but without the solution so I have not published the solution on the new managed path site collection. I am working this on the server and not my computer, is that could be the problem? it looks like every site collection that is created under sites managed path will not work

Hi there! I apologize for the issue you're facing. It's possible that there is a problem with the publishing process or some settings on your server. Since it's difficult to troubleshoot specific issues through comments, I recommend reaching out to our support team or posting your question in the community forums. They will be able to provide more specific guidance and help you resolve the problem. Thank you for your understanding!

Hello Clark. I am using O365 Share Point Site and getting an error while publishing master page . Error "Access Denied. Before opening files in this location, you must first add the web site to your trusted sites list,". I am able to open location (\\domain.sharepoint.com@SSL\DavWWWRoot\_catalogs\masterpage\) with file explorer. Can you please suggest any solution for the same ?

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out. It seems like you're experiencing an "Access Denied" error while trying to publish the master page in SharePoint. One possible solution is to add the SharePoint site to your Trusted Sites list in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Go to Tools (the gear icon) and select Internet options. 3. In the Internet Options window, go to the Security tab. 4. Select Trusted sites and click on the Sites button. 5. In the Trusted sites window, enter the URL of your SharePoint site (e.g., domain.sharepoint.com) and click on Add. 6. Click Close and then OK to save the changes. After adding the site to your Trusted Sites list, try publishing the master page again. Hopefully, this resolves the issue. Let me know if you have any more questions or need further assistance!

Hey DeShon, first thanks for the Vids, really great content. I seem to have a problem where I can access the windows explorer view, but when I try to publish in visual studio, I get "Unable to create website \\abc. The path \\abc does not exist or you do not have access. The specified path is invallid". Could you please let me know what im missing. Thanks

First, thank you for taking a look at these vids! I really enjoy this stuff. Now to your issue...this is a common error. You need to first establish a connection to the windows explorer view in IE11. Once this is open locally, then you can publish via Visual Studio. The windows explorer connection must be open the whole time while you are using Visual Studio...let me know if this resolves it. Oh yeah...one more tip. You may get an error when trying to open Windows Explorers view for the Style Library, just ensure you add the SharePoint site to the Trusted Sites listing in IE Internet --> Internet Options -- Security Tab ---> Trusted Sites...this should do the trick. Keep me posted...

Hey DeShon.. thanks for you prompt reply. I have the trusted sites sorted (as I can open windows explorer and paste the \\abc site in and see the folders contents of _catalogs\masterpage and styles library. I also logged into Visual studio as the same login as Sharepoint. I have SharePoint Server publishing feature and SharePoint Server publishing enabled. I leave windows explorer (both styles library and _catalog\masterpage) open as I publish and stil get the error. Funny thou that yesterday was working....

Oh...you are doing all of the right things. Reboot did not help? Which version of Visual Studio are you using? May be try another computer (i.e. RDP into another machine). Also, you may try a different profile on your local machine, just to kinda reset things and start fresh. Based on your last comment, you are doing all of the right steps and have the right pieces in place...maybe a Windows update killed it for you?!?!

DeShon.. no luck so far. I have to go about it the long way and copy the files/folders into the windows explorer 'Style Library' and 'masterpage'. Its a bit of a hassle as I edit the file (.master) in notepad++. If you find out a fix with Visual Studio/Sharepoint issue, please upload a video of it, I think it would be very helpful. I will still keep on investigating. Cheers

Thanks Deshon for your helpful videos, but I have tried the same approach with the new version of VS 2017 (15.5.5) when I created a new website, I cannot add an existing website to the solution package. It seems existing website is not reacting and not showing anything. In their community channel, they said the fix will be included as a part of next minor update: developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/163017/on-solution-add-existing-web-site-not-reacting.html
