Today we will learn about the history of Cannabis and why there is still a stigma. Mary Lynn Mathre, has close to 50 years of experience as a nurse and has specialized in addictions nursing since 1987 and cannabis education since 1990. Ms. Mathre is a co-founder and President of Patients Out of Time (incorporated in 1995) as a non-profit organization devoted to educating health care professionals and the public about the therapeutic uses of cannabis (www.medicalcananbis.com).
Mary Lynn is the editor of Cannabis in Medical Practice: A Legal, Historical and Pharmacological Overview of the Therapeutic Use of Marijuana (1997) and co-editor of Women and Cannabis: Medicine, Science and Sociology (2002).
She has served on the planning committee for Patients Out of Time’s accredited National Clinical Conference on Cannabis Therapeutics conference series since it began in 2000 (now an annual event beginning in 2015). Ms. Mathre is also a founding member and Past President of the American Cannabis Nurses Association (2010). She served as charge nurse on the Addictions Treatment Unit at the University of Virginia Health Center and later as the Addictions Consult Nurse for the UVA Health System until 2002.
In addition, she later worked as the executive director at a methadone treatment center. She has been a past board member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Addictions Nursing.

She has experience in many medical areas, including Emergency and Trauma, Labor and Delivery, OR, ICU, Medical Surgical, Rehab, Hospice, Home Care, IV Specialist, Private Duty Care, Caregiver Trainer, and Assisted Living and Memory Care Director. Once her Mom was showing symptoms she became a Certified Dementia Practitioner then went to North Carolina to train under Teepa Snow with Positive Approach to Care (PAC). She is still a Certified Independent Trainer with PAC. At A Better Approach to Memory Care, Teresa can be hired as a Speaker, Staff Trainer and Family Consultant. She also trains first responders like Fire and Emergency Medical Service providers.
