Yay for season 5! Thanks for sharing your experience with head injuries. I’ve been lucky so far regarding injuries. It’s something I worry about even as a beer leaguer. Thanks, Keeks!

Some of those beer leaguers can still shoot and are also far more likely to have accidentally collisions.

Good thing you're raising awareness regarding head injuries among goalies. Especially after Murray's hit the ice with the back of his head and there's a ton of hate as for his injury proneness instead of feeling sorry for this guy.

Love the intro. Played a tourney this past weekend. 6 games in 2 days. I bet I let in 5 or 6 during breakaway dekes to my glove side. No clue how they are getting by. Pad flat on the ice, strong push to the post, glove forward and on top of the pad. Puck still finds a way. Using these old eyes to track a fast moving puck seems to be my current weakness. I’ve graduated to a league full of college kids and former pros, very fast hands. I can’t wait to show off my ability to dodge the puck by a few millimeters on every shot.

@@FutureProGoaltending best I can tell, going over my pad, outside my glove. I’m not flexible enough to get the glove over the skate during that hard push. So, when the skate hits the post, I’m guessing there is still room between my glove and the post. But the big problem is not tracking the puck into the net. I lose sight of it momentarily, and use the push and pray method to make that save.

Once again great advice. Nice to see 99 fighting for the puck in the crease. Stay well.

Sorry to hear about the chronic symptoms resulting from earlier concussions, but really appreciate your sharing. Class act Coach for choosing to talk about the things that don't get discussed enough! Wishing you well as you go through this process!

Useful tips here. Thanks Keeks! I’ll give this a try! Keep up the good work! Beer league video suggestions could be short drills like this that could be done in warm up or while the puck is at the other end of the rink since practices don’t happen anymore and we have to take advantage of the ice time we get.

Sorry for a double comment, Coach but I didn't want to mix these two things up. In your example, breakaway takes place always in the middle of the ice so Y theory is pretty obvious. But what if a guy comes from the left wing let's say? Does Y moves so it makes me square to the puck? I hope you get what I mean.
@FutureProGoaltending

Yes, off angle breakaways use the Y theory as well, with less initial challenge and the initial line of challenge should be square to the new puck angle

The story of concussions hit very close to home. Slurring, stuttering, forgetting people’s names… People don’t believe me when I tell them about the burning rubber smell. My worst concussion came from going 140kph head on into a concrete wall at Mosport. Regarding Mitch’s “Y” Theory; I use the saying “Outside the hash marks, outside the blue.” A deke almost always starts at or very near the hash marks so I want my kids’ heels to be at the top of the crease by that point. I also teach the post overlap over foot-to-post because as the front leg collapses into the post it slows the upper body down, leaving that post uncovered. I’ve also considered donating my tiny brain.

Sorry to hear about all the brain trauma you have to go through. Thanks for reminding everyone the importance of prioritizing your head health over everything else.
