Well the record will say I'm trying. Never easy out here and nothing ever goes to plan! However the sunsets and hint of freedom makes everything worth it. 6 years later and I'm still here down below pouring over charts dreaming of one day crossing oceans.

Next time you drop your phone in the water, as soon as you get it out, immediately, put it in a bucket of freshwater flush all of the salt out of it completely. Then put it in a small container of 90% rubbing alcohol. Shake it around in the alcohol. Give it a little time so that the alcohol can displace all of the water. Take it out of the alcohol and shake it out the best you can. put it in the oven and bake it on a very low temperature. You don’t need heat. You just need dry air. The longer you wait the better. I would not be surprised if you could get a phone working again. I flooded the control unit on my metal detector, in salt water, and I used this method, and my metal detector works to this day. 10 years later.

Great win with the motor. Saves alot of money when you can do it yourself. Wonder if the head gasket got busted when you had been cranking it for long in indiantown..might have blown then.. Crappy regarding the phone.. aometimes a small win goes a long way. Fair winds.

So true. I think it blew the head gasket during the storm in Palm Beach and when I was maneuvering off the sand bar in Bimini. Never give your engine full throttle for more than a minute! At the time I though I would wreck and made the decision to use max power on my tiny old engine..

You can run a diesel full for about an hour straight. It's recommended after each 50 hour interval to burn off the carbon..aka the Italian tuneup.. perhaps the gasket was on last legs and then surely it didn't help. Problem with boat diesels is that many people don't run them at 80 percent most of the time. The practice of bigger and more HP engines in sailboats is leading to these early failures. People used a 1-2 HP per 1000 lbs formula, now it's common of 3-4 HP per 1000. I repowerd with a 50hp on a 30k lbs boat. With new gasket you are good to go. Just remember to retorque head bolts and recheck those.

@lonestaradventures8838 my exact thoughts. Re torque is key. Diesels like to run often and run them hard! Thus channel is called sailing EV for a reason. If I'm blessed with the opportunity to recover EV I will go full electric. I'm assuming it's equally a pain in the but just like everything out here as a long term crusier. Just takes $ time and the will to go further...

Perseverance. Man, you got it. Hope life brings you some easier times soon. As much as we all enjoy the drama of your channel I know we’d also like to see some episodes where you are finally getting to enjoy life and the journey. Looking forward to that and will have a huge smile on my face when it happens for you.

Wow the never give up mentality you have and u can do everything yourself style is what I strive for.. but I have a long way to go to be like you🤗. How did u even learn how to fix engines? Then u said your dad worked for vp so I understood 😊. Do you ever break down mentally?
