Watch this video for Reverse Parallel Parking meeting the standards for South Australian VORT and CBT&A (logbook). Shown with the minimum standard of 2 sticks/poles spaced 1.2m from the car at the front and back.
This technique works well when parking between sticks, and just as well when parking between cars. Practice by placing poles or bins either end of your vehicle, or by finding cars spaced a reasonable distance apart.
In SA VORT, you get 2 points for successfully completing the parallel park. Those points get awarded, park within 30cm of the kerb, half way between the 2 sticks without hitting the kerb. Keep checking around for traffic, including over your shoulder at the points mentioned in the video. If a car arrives, stop and wait. Make sure your initial signal away from the kerb is at least 5 seconds, or that's an immediate fail of the whole test!
There are many ways to successfully reverse into a road side parking space, and it just takes consistency and practice. If you do the same thing each time, you'll get a very similar result each time. Good luck!
