The Wehrmacht came actually really really close to entering moscow. There's a monument at the closest point that the Wehrmacht got to, which is about 29km (18 miles) away from the Kremlin in central Moscow. Some German officers were actually able to see some major buildings in Moscow through their binoculars.

@METAL HEALTH I think you're not aware of the fact your home and mine didn't fight the same war. If the Reich had peaced you out after Dunkirk, you would happily have left my lot to death and picked apart the remains like the relic of a mindset from the colonial era would behoove you, that the majority of you still had then. Because of the distance - the geography, the circumstances as they pertain to the strategic situation - it was never as personal for you as it was for us. Exactly how many of your cities were depleted of able-bodied men? The Victory Day marks the end of the devastation and the beginning of the rebuild. Were you deceived by the notion it's a big parade for veterans and not much more? In any regard, I don't feel I would be wrong saying you would sneer down your nose when duty calls in the form of a mobilization poll.

One of th most important things about SABATON: The tell stories and never glorify war. In fact, the final message is "We need to know about this because we need to learn about this... All those stories will never repeat". When I understood that, I start to listen the band.

Just saying, here is a fact that I learned in high school World History class: The German attack on Moscow never made it within the city limits, as the Soviet Army stopped the German advance 15 miles outside of Moscow. This was unlike the Napoleonic Wars, which saw Napoleon actually occupy Moscow for 6 weeks before the Russian Army pushed him out of Moscow. By the way, Jen, in case you didnt hear it, during the guitar solo, Sabaton honored the Red Army by putting the Russian national anthem into the solo. There are very few songs I've ever heard that makes me feel pride for a country like Defense of Moscow does for Russia. And I don't care what anyone says, there is no way you can't not show respect to a people that stopped a juggernaut like the Nazi war machine. They threw everything into it they had, and still won. It is one of the reasons I want to one day see places like Stalingrad, Leningrad, and the Battlefield of Kursk -- because I want to see these places where men paid in blood to keep their homeland free from invaders.
@Anonymous-qj3sf
Жыл бұрын
It is a pity that in the West they do not know anything about it. Stalingrad became the bloodiest battle in world history. In Stalingrad, the Germans lost more soldiers than on the entire Western Front, in Africa and Italy combined. Stalingrad is a small dot on the world map. The Western Front, North Africa and Italy are entire countries and parts of continents. The battle for Kursk became the second moment of BB2, after which the Red Army broke the Wehrmacht irrevocably and launched a counteroffensive along the entire front, and Germany began to fall back. Leningrad has become an example of incredible courage and heroism. All European countries (except Russia) fell to Germany in a short time - from several hours to a month .... The city of Leningrad, being in a complete arms and food blockade, held back the onslaught of the Germans for more than 800 days, and then threw them back ...

The Russian commander in the video is most likely not Stalin. Stalin did not directly command the troops on the frontline during The Battle of Moscow like this guy in the video. The authors probably meant one of the Russian generals like Zhukov or Rokossovsky (latter would fit perfectly - that was Rokossovsky who saved Moscow in 1941). But this character's appearance and, more important, his Imperial styled uniform more resembles general Brusilov, who lead victorious offensive operation against Austro-Germans during WWI.
