I loved watching Zorro on TV back in the 50's & 60's. Especially the Saber Fencing duels. I became an avid Saber Fencer later / a Maestro & even a Paladin Knight. It was FUN watching this again ! Thank You ! Sir William Nelson Paladin Knight as well as Tournament & King's Champion in 1989.

Probably my favourite duel in the entire show's run! Guy Williams studied fencing under the legendary Aldo Nadi, as well as being Fred Cavens' proclaimed 'most talented' sword student, and it shows; he's clearly enjoying himself here. His balestras were absolutely lovely

@@antonioieraca4102 Guy Williams' real name was Armando Catalano, his father was indeed from Messina. Guy himself was a New Yorker born and raised, but was very proud of his Italian heritage; one of the first times he met his wife's family, he cooked autentic pasta for them and had to search several stores before finding one that stocked olive oil. Nedo Nadi is considered one of the greatest fencers of all time - the only fencer to achieve gold Olympic medals in all three weapons, holds the record for most Olympic fencing individual medals won (6) - but his brother Aldo tends to eclipse him in fame (mostly because he was a braggart who did attention-seeking stunts like fighting duels and sending lists of his achievements to the newspapers :P) Aldo was intimidated by Nedo's brilliance and worked hard to try to match his success. Both brothers had to teach themselves epee, as their fencing-instructor father dismissed it as an 'undisciplined' weapon and refused to teach them; despite that both Nadi sons won epee medals.

This was late in the second season. In the early episodes of the second season, it was revealed that his father had figured out who Zorro was, but had remained silent until it became necessary to admit that he knew. The whole dynamic of the last 2 thirds of the second season changed, with his father taking an active role in Zorro's mission, advising Diego and encouraging him.

We must be of the same general age because from my time as a young child I remember the Disney TV series with Williams. I think even the TV producer and director on this series would concede that the template for the costume, the leaps, the smiling personality and carving the "Z" into objects was set in the original of all from 1920 with Douglas Fairbanks Sr. It is documented that a different hero, the inventor of Batman said the Fairbanks original inspired the Bat-cave and the dual identity.

Memories, although I don't remember this episode. I do remember the early episodes with the Commandant and the story being closer to the original story and most of all the original film which wasn't Rathbone/Power as Gen Z thinks. It was Douglas Fairbanks Sr. in the dual role with Noah Beery as Sgt. Garcia in glorious live sound accompaniment as a silent film in 1920.It was Fairbanks who invented the carving of the "Z" on things, the leaps, the grins, and much of the costume.
