100%. The Sabres would have to go .651 the rest of the year to reach 95pts. That's not going to happen. They've a near zero chance of collecting two of every three points available the next 56 games. This is a frustrating team to watch, but I too appreciate the analysis. Hopefully, there's some improvement in the play of some of the kids...especially Power...cuz damn...and the boys start the season on time next year.

I was at the game. The first period was something we've seen over and over and over. I hardly moved in my seat in the second period, not even for Dahlin's goal. Suddenly, in the third period, we played like it was a do-or-die playoff game. It was just too little too late. Our team defense is totally rotten. Benson never quits. Mittelstadt played hard. Krebs sticks his nose in. Okposo never quits. Skinner was a monster out there. It took the Sabres getting pissed to show up. I saw Detroit throw elbows and take other cheap digs. The Wings played with the kind of grit we should show night in and night out. Thompson makes a difference out there, but he tries to do too much. Dahlin makes a difference and also sometimes holds onto the puck too long. Comrie was atrocious on a couple of those goals. Not impressed with Samuelsson tonight.

I don’t think they started Levi because they were afraid of sending him mixed messages. “We’re sending you to the minors to work on your game, we’re going to start you in the first game we call you back up and then send you back down again”. I honestly believe that by sending Levi down, they’re letting UPL and Comrie fight it out and force the Sabres to keep them. They had no pressure last season and started quite well. Then there was that 8 game slide and it took it's toll for a while to recover from. Then, when they realized that the race is about done, the pressure went away and they had that last push before the heart breaker game against Montreal or Florida but still they decided to keep on playing till the season is over and got within a point in the end. This season they had real expectations and it is showing on ice. Also, too many players are underperforming and here is where we stand today. There are also many, many flaws in their game too with actually prevents them from winning. Defensive coverage, pk/pp lately and last night most noticeable thing for the first two periods was how to generate basic attacks and try to keep posession. They dumped the puck and basically gave it away because no one was battling it back in time. Even if there was a guy, he surely lost that battle. That dump and chase is cancer for my eyes personally and to do it THAT poorly it almost makes me physically sick too lol 🤢 I don't know is it just that pressure factor wich is just too much or something else. Its just heartbreaking to witness again.

We’re seeing more and more people calling for his head now. I can understand a coaching change and think that’s what’s needed, but I think firing Adams would be a massive mistake. That might be the one thing that will ruin the rebuild and goal of winning a Stanley cup. We have to remember that most free agents don’t want to sign in Buffalo yet and we can’t start overpaying players just because we want to finally make the playoffs. Detroit is older, because two years ago, their GM decided to go another direction. He(Yzerman) did that because they've had zero lottery luck and couldn't rely on winning a couple draft lotteries to stock their blueline. Like Buffalo, Detroit has a cupboard full of young talent waiting for a chance to show their stuff, but unlike the Sabres they've built a team of vets focused on defensive play and being a PITA to play against. Then later they'll slowly add in their kids. This way they avoid developing a culture of losing and their kids can enter the league on a team that wins once in awhile. If you think Detroit is going to go away in a few years, then I suggest you look into their prospect pool...which is typically rated top 5 in the league with the Sabres, Bedardhawks, and Ducks. While Ottawa and Buffalo fans have been patting themselves on the back for allegedly assembling playoff teams, Yzerman has been quietly rebuilding his entire team through free agency...with a few draft picks sprinkled throughout. The results speak for themselves, as Detroit has gone from 39pts when Yzerman took over in 2019 to 47, 74, 80 points and they're on pace for 106 pts this season. Time will tell which teams are doing this right, but with Buffalo on pace for 69pts and Ottawa on pace for 82...it seems clear which team is nearest to breaking through and hosting a playoff game.
@gutetime3039
10 ай бұрын
Agree!!!! Idk why so many Buffalo fans think Detroit is behind Buffalo. Yzerman is by far building an entire team game. You don't need every superstar like the Sabres have. Look how this is planning out. Detroit has the culture back of winning and the entire staff is leagues ahead of Buffalo.
@solarion9802
10 ай бұрын
@@gutetime3039 Yzerman's moves somehow confuse people because they can't seem to envision teams built without superstars at the fore. Even when he straight up tells people exactly what he's going to do people don't believe him. Last offseason was huge and set the groundwork for this offseason...which was even huge-er-er. Adding in DeBrincat...and now Patty Kane isn't even this team's final form this year. SY will now patiently see what he's built and address needs via free agency...as he has done since taking over. He's patient, methodical, and relentless and it shows on the ice when his team comes out for the season ready to compete. Love Rasmus Dahlin...still not sold on Owen Power, but I see the raw potential there. Even so, it's easy to see how Detroit's top four dmen may well surpass Buffalo's within a couple years. Walman-Seider + Edvinsson-ASP could be deadly...and that's 2x6th OA draft picks + ASP @ 17th OA. Walman is a gem that Yzerman was targeting with a sneaky trade. ...the man is a magician to add a top pairing dman without anyone noticing like that. Best GM in the league AINEC imo.

@@solarion9802 Wayne would disagree with you that yzerman is "overrated" which is so not true. They addressed #1 issue of getting more scoring and they got it with Debricant. Now they have Patrick Kane, because Detroit has the winning culture again. Yzerman has always been a silent but deadly individual. As a captain he was a quiet leader but played his heart out for the wings. Now he is again being a quiet but excellent leader. He knows what it takes to develop players. You think Pavel or zetterberg, kronwall, larkin and etc would be where they are or were w/o the previous leadership? Datsyuk could have won the scoring title for so many years but chose to be a complete player. That's exactly the type of team Yzerman is building. Someone like Gerard Gallant or Claude Julian would be a significant upgrade when compared to Don Granato.. Personally, I like Granato as a person who cares about his players and is good when it comes to developing young talent... However, the NHL is not the place for grooming potential future NHL prospects... Therefore, in my honest opinion, Granato would be best suited as a head coach in the AHL for developing and grooming our younger players to their full potential in preparation towards beginning their careers in the NHL... Power has been atrocious defensively this year and he doesnt produce enough offensively to justify his insane contract. He is also the most timid and soft defenseman we have. He has zero physicality. Im not even saying he had to throw giants hits, but he wont even shove a guy out from the front of the net! He swings his stick like a purse. What he did on that second goal against the sabres he has been doing all year. He is enormous but no one is afraid to go in the corners with him or to pitch a tent in front of the net and do whatever they want there. He’s also been getting creamed by tiny wingers all year too. He is terrified and there’s no way other teams and players haven’t noticed. It is a giant red flag. You either have that in your game or you don’t. Power does not and has shown no sign that he ever will. You could get two or three NHL ready players for that kid right now. Before he is exposed even more and that P word everyone loves to throw around (potential) has lost it’s luster. Easily the worst and riskiest contract adams has done.

@@buttkick22 I hear ya but there are examples like him that turned into powerhouse defensemen. I’m just saying it’s too early. We should know more by trade deadline of next year…….that might be better. Look at Joe Thorten and Boston…..kinda comparable to what I’d be worried about. Trade him for 3 NHLers who are gone after 3-5 years……meanwhile he’s entering his prime

Kevin Adams clearly dropped the ball this offseason, not getting proper veteran NHL goalie, there is no doubt about it now. Another game where I ask myself, how did Power became No.1 draft pick. He is a cream puff who is easely pushed and shoved. Send that big frame child to toughen up in AHL first. We need defensemen who aren't affraid or shy away from physicality, like Zadorov for example, but no, our clueless GM wants Hanifin, another finnesse D.

Wayne, if you have any influence or some insider close to Sabres org. you need to put peer pressure and express yours and ours frustration with this coaching staff and team. We need to try everything we can to make a change, not cosmetic change, but change that will be heard and felt across the board. We can't go on like this, this is just ridicilous, and I'm starting not to care or feel, and I'm close to just going numb about this franchise. We need grit and toughness behind the bench, and the effect will trickle down the squad. Otherwise we are going nowhere.
