As the 1971 conflict between India and Pakistan began, both sides employed plenty of their assets in attacking enemy airfields and in flying combat air patrol in protection of these airfields. Both air forces relied very heavily on subsonic fighter types - F-86 Sabre in case of Pakistan and Hawker Hunter in case of India. During the conflict, these two aircraft would often clash and this particular clash occurred on the morning of 04 December when two Pakistani Sabres from No 15 Squadron were directed to intercept two Hunters approaching Murid airbase.
