Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, second only to water. And its biggest producers are China and India. In Brazil, the most appreciated drink is made with yerba mate, which is also known as chimarrão in some regions. Here we are going to visit a factory located in England, one of the biggest consumers of this product.
Tea bags arrive in the most diverse parts of the world, such as China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia, India and Vietnam.
Starting with the arrival of the containers where the leaves are dry and oxidized inside kraft paper bags.
The bags are unloaded and stored, waiting to be processed. This factory produces around 100 million bags per week.
The quality department takes some samples as soon as they are unloaded for testing and prepares them for the technicians to taste.
The tasters taste the blend of the leaves to check if the flavor is as expected.
The robot is already programmed to select the correct bags for the composition of the future tea, and thus unloads it on the conveyor belt.
From the mat, the leaves are unloaded into large drums, where 2,000 kilos of tea can be stored.
In the drums, the leaves are mixed slowly for about 8 minutes. After mixing, the tea is poured into these big bags. Each carries around 1,000 kilograms.
From the big bags, the leaves go through a vacuum suction system, where they go to the production area. It is in this equipment that the tea is packaged in small sachets.
The paper of the sachets is made from natural abaca fibers. The machine pours the exact amount of tea into each bag and seals it.
The equipment has the capacity to close 2,000 bags per minute.
They are then sealed in aluminum foil to keep them fresh until they arrive at buyers' homes.
They are then taken to the packaging sector to be placed in boxes.
They are finally boxed into larger boxes for storage, palletized and put away. And so they reach the points of sale
