Wonderful to see a donkey worked in a bosal. Thank you for the training tips.

Hello again, this os James from Arizona. I need your advice. How do you deal with donkey that suddenly pulls away when you are hand walking her with a simple rope halter, slows down and doesn't want to walk, or pulls so hard that pulls a rope from your hand and run? where do you start? I have had her for month, bought her from someone who said she had ground training and has been under saddle twice. She is stand offish. I thank you in advance.

Hi, just keep taking her for the walks, she will get used to the walks, start to feel relaxed and become easy. Some donkeys need less time, some more. Make sure to loosen the rope immediately, when she stops pulling, or on the other hand, stop walking and stop her, whenever she starts pulling. She will learn, that pulling makes no sense - because she´ll be stopped. And that walking without pulling does make sense, because you release the pressure.

Hi, I love this so much! How tall is he? And maybe you could tell what saddle you are using? I would love to have a donkey and train it myself as you did. P.s. very informative and good video

Oh, and when deeper into training can you ride him for longer like 30 min. or even an hour?

Hi, he is 129cm at the withers. Our local saddle master has made all our saddles

Of course I can ride him much longer, we go on trail rides. I just keep the trainings very short

You make it look so easy! My donkey is so sweet, but he doesn't turn well. He braces against the hackimore (bosal). I try to be soft though. How can I can encourage him to be lighter? I really need help!!

Yes, donkeys typically do this. You need really lots of time and patience and be very consistent with press-release and have a good rider balance in the seat (independent hands). If a donkey braces a lot against the bosal, I use a whip to support the turn in the beginning, so that I don´t have to pull too strong

Why is it important to canter on right leg? What would happen if we let donkeys canter how they like?
@EselReich
2 жыл бұрын
They canter naturally both with left and right leads. But once carrying the rider, some donkeys take only their better lead, to try to balance the rider´s weight. This donkey used to canter only with the left lead. If you don´t care as a rider and let them canter like they want, you enforce this unevenness , so with the time they might even become crooked. So I think this is an important exercise for the donkey´s balance and health, if they work under the saddle.

@@EselReich Thank you, you are the first person that could actually answer my question. Every horse "trainer" I ask only replied "because this is the correct way". You are a real professional

Is he just fluffy? The breeching looks a bit snug, but since he's moving fine I'm guessing his hair is just eating the equipment.

That strap under his tail is too tight, and it will wear the hair off and may cause abrasion. There are better methods to keep the saddle in place. A crupper or a britchen would be better. What you are using looks like some kind of modified britchen. Look at another saddle rig for a mule to see the difference.

I´m using this breeching since more than 10 years for all of my 11 donkeys and I never had the problem you are describing. Donkeys are not mules.
