During our trip to Toroweap Overlook back in March of this year, we took our first hike - the Saddle Horse Loop Trail in the Tuweep Area of the Grand Canyon National Park. Being our first hike ever, the 1.1 mile trail was a perfect experience. The trail took us on a walk through protected native plant gardens, countless displays of micro-biotic crusted soils, and spectacular views of the Colorado River below.
No bikes or pets are allowed on this hiking trail. To help keep us on track, we downloaded the trail map using our Gaia app which turned out to be a very helpful tool as the trail was not clearly marked in some sections. There were rock cairns to mark the way for most of the trail. The park ranger had advised us that we need to stay on trail or if we did go off trail, to stay on hard rock as the micro-biotic crusted soils and native plants were to be protected and not destroyed.
The trail may be accessed through the the trailhead marked in the Tuweep Campground at campsite no. 5, which is where we started our hike, or at the trailhead off the road between the Tuweep Campground and Toroweap Overlook.
If you have any questions regarding this hiking trail, please post it in the comments below and we will do our best to provide the information you are requesting.
Thank you for watching! Keep making the most of the dash!
