Good explanation there Ollie my astro mojo has waned somewhat lately so dunno when I'll be back doing anything, I used to do solar outreach some years back until covid hit & I've never done any more since, I really should though. I started off using an ED 80 with a white light filter then moved up to using both an ED100 with a glass white light filter & 5" Bresser refractor with a Baader solar wedge, Lunt 35 Ha scope which my other half has nabbed lol & a PST. Great days they were showing the public the Sun but since my astro friend [assed away I just can't seem to get back into it again. Catching the ISS is something I have managed a couple of times so I might try again at some point as there's a website you can use that pretty accurate right down to the last second but its always best to keep checking in case the ISS decides to change course as if you have to travel anywhere there would be nothing worse then going miles then finding out it's not going to do a transit lol. Anyway hope you well mate clear skies

@@dumpydalekobservatory Hey Tich I reckon it's like that sometimes with motivation, Sorry to hear about your freind. I've been doing more visual lately as I'm not feeling the mojo for imaging lately. I wouldn't mind trying the ISS transit at some point never tried it. Hope your doing OK pal. Ollie :)

Your cat is the spitting image of ours. Does the sun heat up the main body of the scope?

Nice run through on setting up for solar visual. I really must do some solar while the sun is in it's active stage.

Hey Ollie, nice run through mate! I must confess, I’ve not done any solar and know nothing about it! It is interesting and I wouldn’t mind having a go, but don’t really know where to start! I’m not one for visual, I’m a photographer, I like to image, so would go down that route! But starting from scratch with all the good gear won’t be cheap I guess! And it’s something else to learn and have I got the time? Who knows, I find it hard to find the time to do my Astro, even when we have a clear sky! Thats my rant over🤣 Good work mate👍 Clear skies!

Hey Simon ye there's lots to do in this hobby, half the reason I'm just using my eyes more lately. If you ever fancy something quick and easy just go the Baader ASTF filter. Just put it on the front of your scope and point at the sun you can get some nice shots. Clear skies 👍

I'd suggest putting the Quark directly into the scope with the diagonal behind the Quark to avoid overheating the diagonal.
@SimonT65

A 2 inch UV/IR filter is screwed into the front of the diagonal which acts as a ERF as per the Daystar instructions
@TareqAstroPhoton

@@SimonT65 Exactly, that what i do also, or if i use the Barlow before the Quark, but i do have another ERF just right into the Quark nosepiece for extra protection.

Me too, I'm a bit fearful of Murphy's Law, I've got baader film and a Lunt wedge and a lunt50 for Ha, but only do imaging. I think Ollie has given me inspiration to try 😅
