Watched the full process set up vid. Could you do one on the process you use climbing back out of the tree? It seems obvious...its all in reverse, but I feel like this would be a very vulnerable time in the process, and, I would really appreciate your insights and tips. Thanks!

What is the lifespan of a saddle?

I think most manufacturers recommend 5 years from date of manufacture for safety reason.

Great video, I’ve been watching a ton of saddle set up videos as I have just ordered a Kestrel and this will be my first year hunting from the saddle. I’m wondering if you think there would be any issues using the Kestrel with a fixed bridge made of Amsteel Blue rope as illustrated in Greg G2’s saddle videos? Do you think that not having an adjustable bridge is a big detriment or are you using about the same length bridge on most hunts anyways? Thanks

There issue to use a amsteel bridge. It is plenty strong enough, it doesn’t change the function at all. A fixed bridge is what most people use, once they have figured out their ideal bridge length. It is different for everybody so play around with it to find what works for you.

I'm having a hard time finding the weight rating on the kestrel as I do a lot of rope rescue and am comfortable hanging in the air in a rescue harness however cannot really find a def answer for the kestrel

I believe they rate it to 350 lbs but recommend 300 just for comfort reasons.

Do you notice the knot on your bridge or linesman being bulky. Would splicing the rope help with that and make it any easier to manage the rope. Has the knot ever been in the way?

I have been using the rope system for a few years now, so I don't notice them anymore. The little bit of spliced rope I have dealt with is very stiff in the spliced section, this makes it very similar to the stiff section of a knot. I have never noticed the knot being in the way.

Thanks for the info. Do you use an adjustable bridge and what is the length of your bridge when you hunt?
@BoudreauxBoswell

I use a fixed bridge, 40" from attachment point to attachment point, so not including length needed for knots.

Wayne Kiernan I too have been wondering why there is no redundant safety feature, like a back up tether. Anyone use one?

Good questions, a bridge failure would be catastrophic. That said, you can use a secondary safety features as a back up if you felt necessary.

While that is a concern it is no different than a safety harness with a normal tree stand. My HSS harness is attached to me and has a tree strap around the tree that I am tethered too, still only one point of contact.

Why couldn’t the lineman’s belt stay loose around the tree as a secondary safety measure?

This is a ring of the discontinued Amerstep strap on steps, you can find them on ebay or forum classifieds, they are expensive now.
