These videos are helping to keep me sane during the off-season. Neat to learn about a lot of different boats while my own is undergoing some fiberglass/repair work this winter. Cheers from the snowy Midwest, and keep 'em coming Scot!

Who has the production moulds for Santa Cruz 37? Love this boat, Someone should take the moulds to Mexico and build them with infusion, as we did at Corsair. Some of John F27 sails were made largely in Mexico

There is a Sydney 41 heading out to California from Chicago this season for a refit. The interior is similar but not much else. It's another downwind racer with some amenities and a tall rig and deep keel. It would be a pretty cool boat for you to check out for the program if it ends up near SD. Keep em coming, Scott.

Tour of an Olson 40 and Soverel 33 would be great! May be a classic C&C like 35 mkII/III, 38, Landfall 43 or 37R. Very old school is a Tatan 41 or 44.

I am loving your videos. I grew up in Santa Cruz in the70's and my school bus went by the chicken coop where Merlin was built. In the 80's I helped build and race a Gary Mull design 30' in Eureka Ca called the Humboldt Bay 30. There are still a few around, mostly a PNW boat, so probably none in your area , but a super fun boat to race in.We campaigned it from the Swithsure to Ensenada, but nothing gnarlyer than a Humboldt Bay Whistler Race.

There were a couple in SF and they always complained about the rating. More than a few times they finished first and corrected near the bottom. Their tiny added prod is not going to help with the rating. Twice boats tied up next to us on a weekend regattas and I remember they had no cleats. Ok racy race boats have no cleats but it was a real pain as was listening to them complain about their rating. And you are right about the costs. They were very pricey, very close to a used but nice SC52. But the deep keel and large booty worked well in San Francisco but the big kite could be a handful.

Very nice boat for offshore racing, this boat would probably be very competitive in it's class in races like the Cape to Rio and the Transact, as well as shorter races like the Rolex Sydney Hobart and Fastnet races, looks very much a downwind boat. The exterior lines and aesthetics are almost exactly the same as the '95 Simonis custom Robert and Caine 64' Cape to rio boat I race on, same solid pane outside with dividers inside.

This boat is good execution of a lousy design, at least for a lot of sailing venues. In light to moderate winds, it has so much wetted surface, it is slow as molasses. The sprit is so short, the spinnaker doesn't get out in front of the main. There was one on the Chesapeake for a while, and it was bottom of the fleet in just about every race, and would lose to much older and smaller boats, boat for boat on a regular basis.

i remember sailing on one in san diego when they were brand new and steering you could hear and see way too much water burbling back there. big fat ass drags everywhere in light air, kind of like an ex-gf i once had! It didn't have enough rig either and i just remember saying "uh oh"......
