This is the smartest sailing channel, hands down. Always something to learn and plenty to enjoy.

Great tips for going around the mull, particularly with the on shore and off shore wind considerations.

Love the 'real world sailing'. You're not teaching what's written in textbooks, but what works out in the real world. It's important to differentiate between knowledge and experience. Both of which you both seem to share based on this video! Can't wait to see more! Soon to have my own boat out of Troon in the coming weeks. Cannot wait!!

Thanks for the kind comments 🤙 Yes we agree everybody sails a boat differently and every boat is different and so the more ways you can learn how to approach and deal with a situations the better equipped you will be when you need to adapt quickly. Good luck with the new boat, happy sailing ⛵️

Thanks for this - really enjoying it, and the focus on actual sailing! Impressive one-handed reefing and tea-making. Do you ever use your traveller?
@SailingHiraeth

Hey, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, we'll use the traveller for a lot of the mainsail adjustments to reposition the boom when sailing upwind. Then once the wind starts to come around to the beam, and we need to move boom beyond being directly over the top of the traveller car (in it's furthest position to either port or starboard). We will then tighten the vang/kicker to stop the boom from lifting and then allow the boom to swing further out by letting out the mainsheet. When sailing downwind and preparing to gybe, we pull the traveller back into the central position first, before pulling the mainsheet in and initiating the gybe. Hope this makes sense...

Happy new year from the crew of Wavedancer westerly fulmar aka John and Yvonne in Dublin. I dream of touring Scotland trying to get John to agree to sail north of Isle of Man 😂. OMG what a beautiful experience. Humpbacks have always been my favourite whale. Great video just subscribed

Wow ! Although we're from south of the border. As children we were so lucky to spend time with our lovely extended family on the isle of bute for summer holidays. Best of days😊. Thank you for the reminder 😊😊. New subs here.

What camera did you use to film humpback? Want to upgrade to a decent zoom lens camera
@SailingHiraeth

We currently use a Sony A6100 with 50-200 lens. It's not great, but all we can afford at the moment. The biggest issue is stabilisation at zoom. This means a lot of our zoomed footage needs to be heavily stabilised while editing.

Not so much 'hidden' ... just trying to keep it to ourselves. The south coast gets the sun, we get empty anchorages ... I hope.

Idont know why these ponies were brought to Holy Isle, there are no jobs for them and they are prone to injury. Not native to such a tiny isle
