My 32 ft. sailboat voyage to Catalina Island in the middle of summer. The weather was perfect and the fishing was good. It was a great three day getaway.
Now thats what i have been missing-a long holiday. Great video LM.

Watching this video makes me really miss our annual trip to Catalina. The dolphin watching is usually always good but the activity you recorded is great!

Thanks! Your video brought back memories of my 70's childhood. We use to tie up in that cove, wow.

I was thinking the same thing. I had the good fortune in the 60s-early 70s of being raised in a family that could afford ocean racing/cruising sailboats and we were out to Catalina almost every weekend in the summers. First trip to Catalina at age 4 and almost year 'round until age 16. Knew every inch of Catalina; the only harbor we never anchored at was Little Harbor on the windward side, but we moored at every cove on the lee side at least once. I live about 1,200 miles away now but I'd give anything to sail back to Catalina for a week. On my bucket list for sure.

My wife was with me and enjoyed the trip. Both of us are long time sailors. We met in a boat yard many years ago. She was bottom painting her boat at the same time I was painting mine.

I started going over there in the early 70's also. It is basically still the same. Summer weekends are joke but midweek it's like this.

Hi, Believe me, the dolphins don't jump any higher in the South Seas and here is the proof that you don't have to sail 3000 miles to have great sailing and beautiful scenery! Thanks for posting:) J and S

Thanks for finding and watching this video. I have watched your latest video several times showing how you built your boat. I was actually on Google earth today looking at the San Diego area trying to find the build location. My Dad and I finished two fiberglass 32 ft. sloops in our backyard back in the 70s. We started with the bare hull and decks but even then it was a two year project for each one. Are you guys still in Hawaii? The first boat Dad and I built we sailed over to Hawaii and back then I returned in my own 29 ft. A year later I sailed home. I sold that boat and we built the second 32 ft. in my Dad's backyard. What happened after that is a long story. I never did make it to the South Seas but I'm glad to hear that the dolphins don't jump any higher down there. I have sailed the local California waters for the last 40+ years now and still enjoy it. Many thanks for the videos you did on your last trip to the South Pacific. Those were grand.

Thanks. From what I have seen and read about the sailing on the east coast is quite a bit different. More challenging.

Thanks. Yes ---even 3 day holiday really helped. Going 30 miles offshore in a sailboat to a somewhat deserted place is like hitting the reset button. You're brand new again---for awhile.

For some reason, it reminds me of camping at Lake Eildon, where we would take the boat out to Bonnie Doon :) Good Times!

Thanks. Santa Catalina island is about 30 miles from my marina in Long Beach. I keep the boat in the water year round.

This time it was like sailing on a lake. It is not usually like this in the summer cruising season. In the afternoon the wind and waves can make it uncomfortable.
