The safety valve marked red is for the burner, they are for different pressure!

Is there enough torque to run, let's say a 100-500w generator and charge a large lithium battery ? If so this would be a great way to get power out in the mountains during world war 3.

Nice seguin tug, it inspired me to build one for myself. Will try to fit the same steam engine in your video. Thank you for this great video!

@clintonwhite75 I bought the entire setup in 1984 at a local hobby shop, here in New England, for about $400. The boiler and engine are still being produced by Saito, and can be found for purchase on line in the U.S. for about $1500.

Hi baronn3n, It's a real nice engine! I thought about the "Chiba" (back in 1980), but wanted to to put it into a plank on frame hull. Never did build the launch so I sold the boiler, engine and plans to a gent in Belgium in 2011. It takes allot of torque to open the boiler throttle and you might want to get a third servo for the burner. My static tests showed the burner ran for 20 minutes attached to the boiler and engine. Would love to see the progress of your build on the "Chiba". Good luck!

Hi I know it is a lot to ask but could you do a video about your seguin tug? i would like to see more of it, more pics etc.. I 've been searching the web and your version is the one I like the most.

will the burner, boiler, and engine that you have there fit in the tug that you have there if you plan for it before finishing the deck up front? I have the tug but didn't want to spend all that much on the power plant if it won't fit in the boat.

Hi Mitchel, I think it would be very difficult to do due to the bulkhead framing in the forward part of the tug as you would have to cut it pretty far back to accommodation the burner to a point you may have trouble supporting the planking. In addition major strength for the hull comes with the assembly of the main deck to the keel and frame assembly prior to planking and when I looked in to trying to get the burner in AND have access to it it looked like the forward part of the deck would have to be removable adding more construction problems. The engine and boiler are far more expensive than I bought them back in the early 1980's and now sell for over $1500. The better hull would be that of a steam launch where you can have easy access to everything and show off the engine. The electric motor system I used (with reduction gears and solid state speed control) was very easy to install and gives you precise speed control. Saito actually sold two models kits for this engine. One was a steam yacht and another a tug. Both used fiberglass hulls.

Is there a Sight Glass to indicate the Water Condition Level in the Boiler ?
@barongondremarck

+Frank Napolitano Hi Frank, No there is no sight glass in the B2F boiler, you just top it off until water comes out of the plug on the rear of the boiler. If you plan to used the boiler and engine in an R/C model it's important that the boiler and fuel tank are topped up prior to a run. I experimented with the engine and boiler set up on a platform and found that a full fuel tank will run out prior to the the boiler running out of water (to avoid boiled damage). It's also important to know know how much time you have on a full tank of fuel so that you can bring the model back prior to running out of fuel so it doesn't get stranded in the middle of the pond.
