I love how for the final week, the crew set up the car area with basic treatment to indicate they were moving out. That’s awesome that they showcased their last week by putting the effort into the prizes instead of staging.

When this originally aired on the East Coast, it was preempted by an NBC News special report as John was about to play the bonus game. 35 years later, I finally got to see the final outcome.

Kind of sad to this version of Sale of the Century come to an end. It had a very good run on NBC. (6 1/4 years) Basically, it fell victim to talk shows and syndicated programming. Game shows were going out of vogue fast in the late '80's/early 90's as much as variety shows went out of vogue during the late '70's.

So too did cartoons on Saturday mornings; NBC was the first to wind down on this when the 1991-92 season ended. CBS I believe ended their Saturday morning cartoon block when Garfield & Friends was canceled in 1995, which left ABC as the lone holdover until, finally, The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show met its demise in 2000.

Many great memories of watching SOTC when I had off from school back in the ‘80’s, as some have said on here, times were changing back then for daytime television as now in the 2020’s, it’s mostly talk shows and reality shows on weekday daytime TV, the only daytime game show now is Price is Right, and not much soap operas anymore either

When I first saw Jim say that the Instant BArgain will go on "the next show" to "nothing", I both laughed and cried at the same time. I also think John should have won the car automatically and been allowed to go for the $50,000. Should've ended it BIG.

Exxon Valdez and its Captain Joseph Hazelwood, Second Mate Lloyd LeCain Jr., and Third Mate Gregory Cousins. There was a lot of blame shifting in that. It was a real mess. Dawn soap would be a benefit of this as they would show that they could use it to dissolve the oil on birds.

So the real reason for Sale of the Century's cancellation isn't because of the Winner's Big Money Game. That's fine. But it was due to the low ratings. Well, I think NBC and Reg Grundy Productions did try their best to boost up the show's ratings.

@BobbyBaylor

Because they were playing up the fact that the show was ending and they were using moving supplies as set decor. It's similar to the series finales of many scripted shows where the characters move away and the last scene is often the empty set without furniture or anything.
