Seems like there are some mixed feelings about the movie. I imagine I will enjoy it, because I even liked the Rob Lower Salem's lot remake lol. I guess that mean I am going to have to pay for Max next month. I limit myself to just 2 streaming services per month. I was planning on going with Shudder and Netflix for October, so I could rewatch Stranger Things for this Halloween season and binge out on the horror they have added to shudder over the last 6 months. Guess I will add in Max to that. Even though, to be honest, I will probably watch more horror movies on tubi for free than I will on any of these services. So sad.

I wouldn’t worry so much about negative reviews. There’s so many negative people in the world these days who are literally waiting to shit on anything that gets people excited. People are also massively desensitized because of everything that’s on the internet. It’s hard to “get scared” when you spend the day watching videos of people actually dying or getting murdered. It’s understandable that things might not live up to expectations, but real fans of any franchise should be happy that what they love is getting attention.

Huge King fan here. You can dislike the movie without being a “hater”. King himself did not like the movie version of “The Shining”. II liked it but would not consider King a hater because he didn’t like the interpretation. Interesting too that King originally didn’t like the idea of the “Nosferatu” version of the monster but later saw the decision as a good one.

@@Guyvermectin You can be a huge fan of King and not like the rendition…so agreed. King himself hated the rendition of “The Shining”. I liked it but that was King’s opinion. I thought Salem’s Lot 2024 was a disappointment….evidently so did those that make the big decisions. It wasn’t released at the theatres in the States or Canada.

I cannot WAIT for this 😅 My favorite King story by a long shot and knowing this isn’t a straight retread of the OG 70s era miniseries , it does look to me like a proper homage. Trailer brings all the correct kind of vibes I needed for this classic 👍

Spooky fun for sure! I do think this plays better at home with the lights off. I feel a good chunk of the bad reviews came from the in person premiere. Something about it feels a little TV movie (which isn’t a negative for me) so I think some might be let down. For me, I was cuddled up and laughing and jumping

Stephen King is great at "Trash Writing", and I mean that as a good thing! He can take an everyday thing (something we look at all the time), and conjure up an idea that sends chills across a soul. I've been looking forward to this for a few years now and can't wait!

I had mixed feelings. I love how the vampires are still blue (honestly, that always freaked me out), and the drive-in at the end was insane! There was a little too much going on for me though. It was as if they couldn't decide if Mark or Ben was the main character. It would focus on the kids and then do a 180 to focus on the adults. I think if they had chosen to focus on one more than the other, it would have been better. The glowing crosses were weird, but I must say the tree house scene was great! Plus, thank goodness they kept the window scene!

Thanks, EJ! 🧛♀ I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I liked it, found some elements to be very effective. 🔸 I read and loved the novel in grade school, loved the original mini-series from 1979 and enjoyed the mini-series from 2004. If I could do a mash-up of all the bits that nailed what I find intriguing about the story, it'd be a miracle. 😆 Alas, the perfect version is yet to be produced. Hopefully, it will within my lifetime. But, for now, this current version has plenty to savor.

I adore Stephen King but this one falls short. What I liked was that the plot was somewhat different so a few surprises. Unfortunately the vampire was revealed too quickly so the build up wasn’t there for me and jumping so quickly that vampires are the problem was also rushed. Totally captured the seventies feel helped by the music of the time, subtlety done. Loved the book, loved the original. Will watch anything Stephen King so will never be horribly disappointed. Originally the great anger for Mark and thirst for revenge was because the vampire killed the parents, not the friend. new one at that! Huge mistake. The motive fell flat.

Just the mention of it, my nose thinks someone just gave themselves a hearty vigorous butterfinger and then wiped it on my nose holes. Very disappointing from having just watched this film and it's very apparent it has been butchered in the editing room. This film ABSOLUTELY NEEDED 2 parts as the book is very much a slow burn and builds up the story gradually. This film, unfortunately, has none of this and is essentially an extremely condensed, rushed, poor mimic of the book. If you are a fan of the book, I'm sorry to say that you're most likely going to walk away disappointed. If you know nothing about Salem's Lot, then I suppose the film could be called somewhat a fun time, but no more than a 6/10 at best.

Very disappointing. Horrible. A wasted opportunity. Pacing is terrible, bad dialogue, human reactions are off and unnatural, it feels rushed, and I did not engage with the characters for a second. I felt sad when Barlow, with his fake plastic head, died, because I was rooting for him. I was hoping he would kill everyone, including the director and scriptwriter.
