Beautiful. This sound is like the top end of what made me sit up and look when I first heard down-picked banjo.

Beautiful job on a favorite tune of mine! learned this from some old 78 rpm record. On the record it came out in A flat minor so it took me a bit to get it figured out :-)

I learned it straight out of “John Burke’s Book of Old Time Fiddle Tunes for Banjo” - probably in ’77 or ’78.

I've heard versions in Am, but this is in Dm as that's what I learned it in!

@@BanjoUtah - I really like your rendition. I noticed the capo at the 2nd fret. Did you tune the banjo to Double C or some variation?

@@tharleman It's in double C tuning. As Mike said, he learned it from the John Burke book and that version is in double C tuning.

me encanta esta cancion , pero de por casualidad sabes la historia de esta melodia? w.w

As far as I can tell, it's a traditional fiddle tune. By the sound, I'd say there's a good chance it may be derived from an earlier Celtic piece that made its way to the Americas.

@@joseph2832 The banjo is in Double C tuning, which works nicely for both major and minor pieces (in this case it's minor). The capo is on the second fret, which puts it into the key of Dm.
