I think one reason why Salman Khan feels like such a pleasant teacher is because he doesn't fall under any math teacher stereotypes. He is almost like Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, a spontaneous and cheerful rockstar dude who enjoys life and acts like a normal guy.

This man is YEAR'S ahead of everyone else. Some of stuff he was talking about was stuff that was used for year's in ONE ROOM COUNTRY SCHOOL house's. That was kid's helping other kid's. Higher grade levels helping lower and the other way around sometime. I know this because I went to one my 1st thru 5th grade. Then I got stuck 6th thru high school in the shit ass school system of Chicago. The sad part is that it is even worst now then before after some 40 year's. DOWN WITH UNION's of ALL KIND's!!

You are, of course, correct. However, the Khan Academy is planning to do credentialing, too. Now, THAT would be a real game changer!

I was being sarcastic. In the US often someone isn't allowed to teach without a Teaching certificate and many require a special degree. Yes, I think you are right "enough said". :-)

@Hamsammich111 Lots of great teachers don't get a chance to teach in the US. There are requirements to have an "Education degree" and "Teachers Certificate". The teacher unions have control of lots of the public education system. Sometimes for science and math they will make an exception because they are desperate for qualified teachers, so maybe a PhD will be enough. Well, that does deserve some sarcasm... right? Sorry to confuse you. I think the concept of Khan Academy is wonderful!

Lectures are great but the whole point is to learn the basics at home so then you can apply what you know to discussion in class to get to the good stuff. In law school, having the professor spoon feed the students all the answers will in no way help future lawyers be able to defend their clients! We go to school not to learn facts but to practice thinking. I think Khan is trying to fuel this "flip"

...sadly they won't get jobs without the corresponding 150k degrees. Still, the fact that it's there helps a lot.

Hey... he shouldn't be allowed to teach. He isn't qualified. Where is his Education degree? Where is his Teaching Certificate? He isn't part of the Teacher's Union. I'm kidding! I think his Khan Academy is fantastic!
