PART 1
We had an amazing time in Alaska. The breathtaking beauty of the place was elevated by some amazing weather throughout our stay. We flew in on a Friday(July 28, 2023) to the Anchorage Airport. From there we had a 3 hour drive to our stay in Soldotna. On our way, we stopped at Bird Creek and saw that the anglers were catching mainly pink salmon with a few silver salmon around.
Our plan was to take rest the day we arrived, but the team was pumped to catch their first Salmon. We went to explore Kenai the same day and saw that the anglers there were catching Sockeye Salmon. We learned some basics of Floss Fishing from there. Basically Sockeye Salmon are vegetarians and mostly feed on planktons before they migrate to the rivers unlike the other species of Salmon which can be caught on spinners and bait. Flossing is a method of running the hook and line by the opened mouths of the Salmon while they migrate upstream. We did not have much luck that day.
The next day, we had a Sea Cruise through the Kenai Fjords National Park. Seeing a majestic group of Whales feeding on herring was absolutely mindblowing. We got to see the Aialik Glacier from a close range too. The same day we tried to do the floss fishing for Salmon again and we started catching our fist bunch. The girls outperformed the boys on the first day with three delicious red-meat Sockeye Salmon. Altogether we ended up with 5 Salmon on the first day and the dinner without a second guess was amazing.
Will continue with a video of our adventure for the next few days. STAY TUNED...
