Great video, I am actually visiting relatives that live near the river conon at the end of May. I was hoping to do a day fishing. Back in the uk I mainly lure fish, but I do love to flyfish for trout. Is there anywhere on the river that is good to target trout? I sold my 8wt , I don’t have any spay casting gear …. So I will be limited to my 9ft 4wt . Also any recommendations for flies would be greatly appreciated. I also run a fishing channel called “the occasional angler”, would you like to do a joint video possibly when I come up? Thanks guy

Thanks Guy. The Conon does have trout but primarily people fish for salmon and most of the river is private and not open for a day ticket. For trout fishing most people fish on lochs rather than rivers where you find its mostly salmon fishers. Maybe a good option could be to try the river Nairn which is a lot smaller you can fly, spin and bait fish for salmon, seatrout and brown trout. A lot depends on if there is rain but you would easily cover it with a 9ft rod. Look on the river Nairn website for info but is not too far away from the conon. Give me shout nearer the time and i can help out and we can maybe meet up. Dave

@@nairnfly thanks for the information. I have actually borrowed a 10ft 8wt , so I think the Conon is a option. Is the dayticket section any good? Can I ask do you use intermediate or floating lines? Any tips on effective flies ? Thanks guy

@@theoccasionalangler6956 The club water is good for seatrout but they are around march\april then from july to september. Might be worth getting a trout ticket to fish on Brahan estate. brahan.com/fishing-on-the-brahan-estate-salmon-trout-pike/

@@nairnfly I have had a look at the Nairn, and I think this is a good option for me. I will bring a fly rod, but I would love to spinfish the river. I then to use small sinking jerkbaits to target trout (4-7cm Rapala’s) …. Are these allowed on the river or is it spinners only. Also do they like treble hooks to be replaced with singles? Are there any lures that work well on the river? Thanks guy

@@nairnfly thanks mate, this is only 20 minutes from my cousins house! Perfect. They appear to allow spinning aswell. Do you know what size the trout average here? It looks to be quite a wide river here, any suggestions on lures that are tried and tested ? Thanks guy

Hi Alan i guess it depends where you will be fishing. The rod in the video was 15ft but i think most 14ft rods are just as capable these days. Any river the size of the Conon i would say 14ft with a 13ft in the low water of summer. If you have a switch and 12ft already i would suggest a 14ft rather than 15ft. Hope that helps !
