Happy new year. Unlucky on the lost fish. Fishing isn't easy its the enjoyment of being out the fish is just a bonus that's what I keep telling myself anyway 😅.

Happy New Year Chris, what a great video. Are you allowed to give out info on this beat as it looks fantastic, like where to book it with and cost please. I am not the fittest of people but it looks like I could manage to fish there.

I feel for ya mate ! Best thing to do I find after losing one is lie face down on the bank for a good 10 minutes sulking lol. Keep at it - your videos show great views of the beats which are worth their weight in gold - credit to ya ! And the river app is a great recommendation too. Looking forward to seeing you travel Norway next to recky those rivers for us !

Bad luck mate. Having lost two fish this year I feel your pain. Still, it's all part of the game. Our disappointments should spur us on as much as our victories do.

Yeah I know Lee but i suppose what I like is the ease of access to the data, and how it is displayed in a graph rather than a list of heights. The other thing of course is that unless you know what is the best height for fishing on each fishery the data in both fishpal and river app isn't that useful. 👍

Hi Chris. I have been watching you cast, and what you need to do is ,cast your fly as far as you can, let the fly fish round in the currant and then walk down six foot and repeat the prosses all the way down the pool. You seem to be casting the fly across and straight away you move down.

Hi Brian, thanks for taking the time to give me some advice.

If you start your snake roll with the rod tip well behind you you will find that you generate much greater power , the cast is more dynamic that way , you are right to make a smaller loop in the first part of the cast in that sort of wind by doing that the fly will be further away. But I would sayYou are entirely better off with a double spey in such conditions or using a combination of a double spey but aborting before the forward cast and jointing it up with a Perry poke, its a very good combination in windy conditions because you really know where your fly is before the the forward cast and it can made extremely slow and methodical its what i use in that type of wind its a very powerful cast .

Re. The sunray. Think of how a spoon is fished square to the river , its all about showing them the fly broad side for aslong as possible. You are casting it a little bit too far down stream imho , you will catch fish like that but if you fish it as square as possible on a short headed line you maximise your chance most take as it comes square across them but if you have a line that allows you to strip it right through the soft water at the end of that swing its amazing how many will follow round and take on your own bank. Short headed powerful tapered lines like rio scandi, next cast zone airflo rage give good command over air resistant flies like a sunray. There's quite a few Henrik Mortensen videos on you tube that give good advice on the sunray.

Nice video Chris , river looks nice , diseased fish close to bank , thats a worry , the problem we have on the upper Tweed now , there is no Autumn run , getting into late October and November , once the temperatures drop , the fish are spawning , i put my rod away last week in October , i personally do not think it is fair on the fish to be maybe pulling them off the redds, as they are spawning , what other fisherman do is up to them , i have great respect for our quarry , they are in decline and need all the help we can give them ,my suggestion would be to close the river a month early , i would like to think other genuine fisherman thought the same way

Thanks David, it's difficult for a newbie such as me to know what to do in these situations but surely it should its.down to the people who manage the river? The association who manages the Dee for instance made sure that the Dee was closed during the heatwave and that it closed in October?

Hiya Chris,it’s jimmy, I was watching a young lad I had helped out a wee while back, and he was telling me he got 15 this year, the most salmon he had ever caught,he came up to the house with a bottle of whiskey for me,for the wee bit of help I’d gave him,so I was all taken aback,as there was no need I told him,but he wouldn’t here of it,” He said since I had shown him how to actually work the fly on its swing, giving it a little jig forward,he hadn’t caught a salmon “ so to get 15 was absolutely brilliant,I told him how I had past on the message and help to big Chris,to work the fly,so he said he’d give you a look up and subscribe too………jimmythefish-cart
