My favourite boot! I used these in harsh winters with just wool socks and never felt discomfort or cold. Very great build quality. Usually in hot summers I tend to go with a pair of Nike flex shoes for the airflow and ventilation. Not as comfortable but doesn't toast your feet.

Thanks for the review! I actually bought the 4D 2 GTX when they first came out and there were no reviews on them. I took a chance on them and never looked back! Awesome boots and I too have a lot of miles on them. I did find them cold in the middle of Chicagoland winters and never knew about the winter version! Very glad I saw this review!!

How’s the sizing on the boot, does it fit true to size
@jfiery
5 жыл бұрын
There's a reason why Salomon and Asolo are the boots of choice of SOCOM. Merrell and Keens fall apart amazingly fast in places like the Hindu Kush. Asolo W are the same as the Salomon M just FYI. I have wider feet so they fit me better and feel like they have more cushion. Although I did wear the tread off of my Asolo Fugitives before the boot itself gave out and that took over 3 years of every day use. Can't go wrong with either.

Couldn't agree more. Just bought my third pair of Quests. Best all around boot I have ever owned. Funny I also have a pair of the Artic boots too. With 200 grams of thinsulate they are just right for cold winter days of 20° or less. As a carpenter/framer of 22 years. They last 2 years wearing them everyday for 8 months per year (too much for summer). Utah has 5°- 100° days so I would say that they get abused in EVERY way. Waterproof 100%. I wear the soles out before the waterproofing fails. Take it from a guy outside everyday except Sunday (well most). Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Retail $230. Always get mine for 20-25% off.

Interesting that you don’t rate the 4D for winter hiking. I recently bought a pair and their first walk out was in -3 conditions with snow up to my knees and a lot of ice and my feet were toasty and warm the whole time. I’ll be interested to see how they hold up to warmer conditions, but that said, it’s never that warm or THAT cold in the UK so over here I consider them a 4 season boot. But given how comfortable I was up to my knees in snow, I do think they’d hold up well a little colder.

Absolutely love mine. I do have a love hate relationship with the soles, they are great except for any ice. There hard so on ice they are very slick so you have to be very careful. The sole is excellent for every other terrain.

Nice review, well explained. I have a pair of the Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX just like the Navy Seals and all.... These are the worst pair of boots I ever had. I went rock climbing the Mount Roraima at the border of Venezuela, Brazil and French Guiana and it couldn't stand the abuse. For me there is no better lab than the moisture of the Amazon Jungle and the deep harsh and rainy winter of the Top of The Roraima. My pair of Salomon pealed in the side of my toe. The waterproofness hability got lost at the second march. And these boots, when soaked wet, take forever to dry even in direct sunlight. For the tropics: big waste of money. Maybe more suitable for temperate latitudes.

If you are over 200# & are looking to do a backcountry hike / elk hunt - this boot is not for you as they flex tremendously & you can feel every little rock under your foot & they offer little support in every aspect for a 240# guy with a pack..... Bump up to the Asolo fugative or Scarpa Kaliash GTX / ect like i did..... I bought the Salewa alp mid flow as well but them boots are junk. The Salomons are good boots IMO for training for the backcountry in less demanding conditions...

Still though standing water for long periods of time does Not work it's way into the boot.
