Great video..I've been waiting for an honest review of this shoe..many elitists don't like a shoe that's made for midpack runners..I have the s/lab pulsar and it's a great mixed terrain racer..it has cushioning that is way beyond what the specs say..I really like the way it fits..it's a racing shoe that I can forget I have it on even several hours after my race..sounds like it's just like my pulsar..plus my pulsar only weighs just over 6oz..definitely will be going on my buy list..thanks and I will be watching to see how the long run goes..for me that is the best way to evaluate a shoe..you can race in just about any clog out there for 5k or 10k..everything that's not good is amplified as you get to 1/2 and up..thanks for taking back some heat..52f and rainy should be my 1/2 Saturday..nearly perfect for racing..😊😊

I'm a 170 lb mid-foot striker at easy-moderate paces and find shoes that feel cushioned and great to heel strikers often feel quite harsh for me - one example is Triumph 20, which does not give me a cushioned experience at all. I think what I need is a shoe that has a softer foam and a lot of it in the mid and forefoot, so lower drop makes sense to me. Softest shoe I have is Rebel 3, but it doesn't have enough stack for longer runs. Anyway, this Salomon offering doesn't look like the shoe I need either.

You might like the new balance 1080v14 based on that - softest foam I've tried and a 6mm drop. Super cushioned feel. It's not the fastest but if you're looking for comfort and not speed then it's awesome

My experience with Salomon is with their trail shoes, and all I’ve used features firm cushioning. I don’t think they do soft.

In all seriousness a comparison between these and the endorphin pro 4 at sub-3 effort would be really interesting. I know that it’s beyond the intention of the shoe but I wonder you’d notice similar results. There’s probably some overlap in benefits between a 3:30 marathoner and 2:57 marathoner

This feels a bit more like a training shoe. I’ve had it in mind as a long run shoe for days with mixed paces, but still waiting for reviews.

I play alot of basketball and I'm wondering why they don't put these running super foams and carbon plates in basketball shoes. I think it would be a game changer.
@supwell

I've wondered that before too and my best guess is that it's because lateral stability for side-to-side cutting in basketball is more important than straight line speed. I wonder if some of the tech could be used to help players jump higher though. I know a brand called APL did this a few years ago and their shoe got banned

Just try some quick lateral direction change drills in a pair of high-stack plated shoes and see how it feels. These are not really shoes made for quick cutting or reactive movements.

Just ran HM at 6:57 P/M pace in the s/lab SPECTER. I’m 65 yo with diabetes and Parkinson. I find it disrespectful and condescending the approach running shoe companies market to general public. So Salomon is full of crap😂 It’s not the shoe it’s the runner

Pace 👏🏼based👏🏼running👏🏼shoes👏🏼do👏🏼not👏🏼make👏🏼sense👏🏼 I’m sorry Yowana but it simply fails the intuitive and logic test. Not every runner runs the same even at the same pace, and even shoes meant for “elites” or nonelites alike don’t guarantee either improved performance or heightened comfort. A big runner going slow can generate equivalent force to a small runner going fast, but that translates to different paces and needs from their shoes. Maaayyyybe a shoe could be tailored for the elite of the elite (by sacrificing durability for performance only), but there simply isn’t a demonstrable difference of a sub 3 or 2:45 versus a 3:30 or 4 hour marathoner in terms of a racing shoe’s performance. Wear what’s comfortable and what you have fun in, and don’t get sucked into the marketing; you correctly called their bluff about overcharging for this shoe with their marketing, but beyond saying “don’t just buy a shoe sight unseen or cause you saw Kipchoge wearing it” there really shouldn’t be a demarcation of shoes based solely on a number that doesn’t tell the rest of the story of the runner.

Could not agree more about ignoring the marketing and wearing what works best for your individual needs and preferences. To me this seems to be a case of fighting fire with fire. We’ve all been brainwashed to think “I need this X premium race shoe in order for me to run my fastest”. The concept of a more stable race shoe is probably not the most marketable tag line to generate sales. But if marketed as an optimal shoe purpose-built for those on the slower end of the range, then at least we may consider the shoe…maybe.

Alternatively, cadence and stride length determine time and distance. So you can easily design a shoe that works better based on either or both of these factors. It's unlikely a 4hr marathoner is going to have a 2m stride length, and unlikely they'll be 220spm, so you narrow those down to the most applicable scenario and design a shoe for that purpose, it makes perfect sense.

You should watch this video if you haven't yet. kzitem.info/news/bejne/16KLzH2FsXyUh3osi=xDHtcYTms7x3mztQ I agree that it's not explicitly about the pace, it's about time spent on feet, mechanics and bodyweight. And anecdotally, different shoes do feel better or worse to me at different paces - for this shoe in particular it felt much better to me at ~8 min pace than a Vaporfly or Metaspeed due to the stability
