Thanks! We only came across it as we were in Bradford and had a few hours to spare… so glad we did. One of only two UNESCO World Heritage sites in Yorkshire apparently. Hope you’re able to visit one day soon 😊

I went there today and spent most of the day in the Salt Mill ,it really is fascinating, great exhibitions of David Hockneys work , lovely atmosphere and I'm going to go back again tomorrow and check out the church , hopefully go on a canal boat ride and generally suck in the atmosphere of this amazing place. I also had the best ever victoria sponge in the cafe where the menu and. napkin logo were designed by Hockney! Thanks for a very interesting video .

I like Saltaire, though I've not been for about 10 years. When the weather is fine, it's a lovely walk from Saltaire to Shipley Glen, and even though the funicular tramway is not very long, it's an interesting ride up......we always walked back down. Titus Salt Jnr, in 1869, started building a mansion called Milner Field, which overlooked the mill. No expense was spared, and from what I've read in the book, even Royalty were visitors at the mansion. Sadly, the mansion became a white elephant, and by 1955, the mansion was a derelict building with no roof. The mansion was later demolished. Ferniehurst, which was built by his brother Edward Salt, suffered the same fate, along with many other magnificent mansions in England. At least Salts Mill, and the lovely buildings in Saltaire still stand.

Thanks so much again for sharing your knowledge 😊 It really is a privilege to have such a well preserved gem in the North of England but as you say, it’s a shame so much has been lost over time.

I live about 5 miles away from salts mill and used to drive past it on my way to work, but I can say I’ve never been to see it. Didn’t really think it would be as interesting as the video shows. So this summer I will make a trip there.

You missed the main road at the top. Bradford Rd. A little clique of vintage shops. Also, there is a Saltaire festival every year during mid-September. It is absolutely worth a visit. Live act, music, food, fair, market over the dpace of a week. I go every time i can. There are many events at Robert Park throughout the year.

If you are visiting by car there is also a very large, free car park to the east of the main mill building - follow the satnav/GPS for Salts Mill Road (postcode BD17 7DR) There are brown signs for 'Salts Mill' and the '1853 Gallery'. Titus Salt specialised in not just any old wool, but Alpaca wool!. The Mill building is a great place to shop for gifts with a book shop, a kitchen/homewares shop, a jewellery shop and an art and art book shop. The cafes inside are good. There is a David Hockney exhibition - both permanent and occasional ones. A pleasant and interesting place to visit.

Very nice little video. We are all in favour of free parking. I've got a nose for it and seek it out wherever I can find it.
