Did you do the trek to the abandoned car on the south east corner of the Sea? Where you have to take a dirt road that runs along a water canal, go through farmland/etc? That was a trip. The pictures I had saw showed 2 cars..but the pinto had been removed when we were there.

@voiceman1234 I've been to the abandoned CO2 plant - which later became a mineral springs spa/resort - plenty of times. Have explored and shot the Adobe home, rusted remains of an Oldsmobile, and empty telephone poles several times. Never got a chance to see the Pinto before it disappeared. I've also seen the mud pots just down the road. :-)

I have filed a complaint with the boss of Mother Nature regarding the wind, but have not received a resolution... yet. Meanwhile, I'm going to order an external mic with a windscreen for my new camera. :-P

Very odd that someone still lives there among the abandoned buildings and rubble

@buffaloborn71 It is, indeed, odd that people still live here. I think the main reason they do so is because this is some of the cheapest real estate in southern California. If anyone were to sell their place here, they wouldn't get much money for it - and couldn't afford to move somewhere else. There are other residents that are still sticking around and waiting for the glory days of the Salton Sea to return. Unfortunately, the state doesn't have the money to do anything anytime soon.

January 2020 almost 10 years later, and the water plan is in full effect now (as of 2017). San Diego is pulling it's full water allotment from the Cahuilla Valley where the Salton Sea is located. This means that water formerly flowing off the farms into the Sea will not be replacing evaporating water. California Natural Resources will be assisting with the development of wildlife habitats along the old shoreline, near non-farm water inflows, to save some fish and the birds continuing to use the flyway. The Sea is expected to shrink by 40%. See "IID Video" channel showing the new shoreline. See also www.saltonseaactioncommittee.org

Impossible to listen to these videos b/o the constant wind noise.
