The thing that is weird and took Tim Poole’s credibility down was that he essentially said that he doesn’t like polls but kept reciting them.
@theheretic3764
3 жыл бұрын
Well those two things aren’t correlated. In other words you can assert that you don’t like polls because polls are extremely manipulatable and often not accurate. However you can also point out that if a person is predicating their opinion on these polls that the polls accurate or no as they read do not support their position. This is the mistake Tim was making regarding Sam. He stated the polls are not accurate. But then he attempted to illustrate how Sam’s opinion or position was incorrect based on the polls as they read. But then he did not accurately present the polls. So when someone’s position is that most voters supporting something... and then you assert that while you do not think that the polls are accurate just the same the polls only indicated that say 41% of people supported that thing to which Sam replies “it’s actually 52.” And when you look it up it’s actually 52.... you’ve immediately lost your point. That’s Sams debate tactic. He finds a single difficult to assail position and then correlates that position to everything involved in the discussion. He uses this to not only pull you out of your own position in an effort to attack his but he also confines of the entirety of the argument to whether or not you can win that point. Another words you attempt to argue the color is green. He argues with you that it is blue. You assert that the entire thing is green. There’s no blue anywhere on it. He asserts that the color green is made from combining blue and yellow. Ipso facto everywhere you see green there is also blue. That the receptors in your eyes are picking up The green does not dismiss the presence of blue but rather confirms it. You then attempt to argue that based on the shade of green there’s more yellow then there is blue. To which he points out that changes nothing. Blue is still present. Otherwise there would be no green. You then try to assert that the object is also yellow. Without realizing that in doing so you have shifted your point to lend credibility to his assertion that the object is indeed blue. You validate his position attempting to contest it. I could go much deeper into this but the point is made I think. This is the issue with debate. Sam is an excellent debater. Being secure you’re at debate does not mean that one is currently more intelligent or even correct. Simply that they are more persuasive and better at defending their point. Articulation. They understand when to present a specific fact. Debate is about persuasion. It is about how you present your facts. How you present your position. Not to mention your demeanor and general body language. If you read the comments who you will find multiple instances were people described Tim as looking so shocked or uncertain. This makes Sam more convincing. Particularly as he holds a physical demeanor indicative that he never believed for an instant he was not correct. This is why Steven Crowder debating him would be such a terrible idea. Steven Crowder‘s personality is naturally neurotic. Sams is very calm almost appearing lethargic. Crowder often repress is his actual personality when he is engaging in debate/discussions with people. But under duress as with most things the natural state presents itself. When this happens Crowder is naturally neurotic mannerisms make him look extremely insecure. Extremely uncertain. And against someone like Sam? That’s a death sentence. Frankly in light of recent events? I wish Crowder would simply acknowledge this. I wish you would simply acknowledge that Sam is a better debater and that’s why he doesn’t debate him. Because people often perceive the lesser debater as the person who holds the weaker position. As the person whose position is incorrect or not accurate. They don’t understand the multiple facets of debate. And as such he being the lesser debater does not want to subject his ideology and his beliefs and positions to that scrutiny by engaging someone who is superior to him in this manner of discussion... It’s sort of like boxing. Matchup make fights. You can engage someone who is not a better fighter than you. And while you may have won the fight they still make you look like shit. Simply due to the way they box. Or you may have lost the fight simply because they made you look like shit even though you really won. This is just an example. Regarding Crowder or Tim and Sam I think Sam is the better “fighter“ and his style is also the one more conducive to making another fighter look bad. So if they “fought“ Sam would certainly win. But that doesn’t mean he’s correct.

3 жыл бұрын
@@redrick8900 “Seder isn’t the one deciding to make that point a big deal“ That doesn’t have anything to do with it. “Polls are almost always accurate“ That’s not correct. Polls are usually very not accurate. It’s not to say that polls don’t have the capacity to be accurate mathematically speaking... it’s simply to say that very often people why. And how a poll is put together is often very influential regarding the answers people supply. It’s kind of like “90% of people support background checks/stricter background checks.” On gun sales. It was discovered that win the question regarding such things in that poll was presented it was very in-specific. When specifically asked if they felt that background checks should extend to all private sales then most people said no. Very often polls are collected for me random sampling but only certain responses of that random sampling are utilized It’s fair to say that in many ways a great deal of the failings regarding these accuracies is found more in the hyper partisanship that’s becoming extremely prevalent in today’s society. However as some states And “polls” are predicated on hard data of course those are going to be much more accurate. It all depends on how the survey was conducted.
