Why has this young hero been all but forgotten? Her story is so amazing and tragic that many people would assume it’s fiction. She did as much as anyone to save the world from complete annihilation. No one has ever accomplished more than Samantha in such a brief life.

This world is such an exhausting place. It seems sometimes like there isn't anything good or pure left anymore--as if only selfishness, cruelty, filth and hatred remain. It can be very easy to be bitter in life these days. Every once in a while, I'll stop and remember Samantha--I'll think about what she was like, and what she represented. She was truly a beautiful and noble spirit, and the world was blessed to have her, even if only for a tragically short time. Samantha, you showed us there is still beauty, kindness, compassion and love to be found in this world. Thank you for being the wonderful person you were when you were with us-- we still remember you, and still love you--you are NOT forgotten.

"There is a lot of anger, frustration, and misunderstanding in the peace movement. The peace movement can write very good protest letters, but they are not yet able to write a love letter. We need to learn to write a letter to the Congress or to the president of the United States that they will want to read, and not just throw away. The way you speak, the kind of understanding, the kind of language you use should not turn people off. The president is a person like any of us." - Thích Nhất Hạnh (1926-2022) Buddhist monk and activist

It's illuminating that both the american and soviet journalists are on a mission: In 1983 with the reagan nuclear build-up and movement of nuclear weapons into europe, the soviets were instructed to ask questions highlighting soviet peace and normalcy. The americans were instructed to undermine the trip by highlighting lack of an andropov visit and any negative information about soviet showmanship for samantha's trip. two hierarchial system, but both with mostly compromised presses, more shocking as working conditions were better in 1983 and there is a general understanding that corporate employed, american reporters had some leeway and ethics vis-a-vis the editor/owner then. The lying press, as trump said.
