Sambar recipe. Brahmins style sambar. No onion no garlic sambar
South Indian style sambar
Ingredients:
Yellow cucumber/southekayi - 1 medium size
Toor dal/Tuvar dal - 3Tbsp
Tamarind -1 small lemon size
Jaggery - 1 small lemon size
Salt - 2tsp or to taste
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Water as needed
For masala :
Fresh coconut - 3/4 cup
Guntur red chilli - 1 or 2(for spicy)
Kashmiri red chilli - 3 (for color)
Urad dal - 1tsp
Chenna dal - 1tsp
Jeera/cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
Methi/Fenugreek seed - 1/4 tsp(~20)
Coriander seeds - 3-4 tsp
Hing/asefoetida(compound or powder) - pinch
Curry leaves - 10
Oil - 1tsp
Water for grinding
For tempering:
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 1
Curry leaves - 10-15
Oil - 1tsp
