Is there any way you can give an updated tutorial based on Finale 27? At least on Windows the file you specified to edit in the video is no longer an .musx file, it's now .ftmx; it's also now in a folder and the whole layout of folders has two options for every kind of template. I'm sure where to go with your suggestions now.

Hey everyone! I'm having some trouble with this... I am saving some of these changes in my document styles and when I open those files from the finder window (Mac) they show those changes to things like Titles font and oversized time signatures. But when I create a new document in finale with the same document styles, only some of the changes are there, like measure number size and position. But text font is back to the default Times, and the time signatures are the same. Any ideas?

I was able to get this to work in Finale 25 but have since upgraded to 27 and have not been able to re-create this. Have you had any issues with the update?

This seems to not be working for me. I’m on finale 27 and it lets me save the document styles in the folder but then it does not apply any of the changes to new files

I did everything you said, but when I create a new document, none of the changes come through, not even the exact ones you used like measure numbers.I wonder if my version is too old? But the file is (almost) where you said it would be -- it's not in the Finale, but Finale 26. Is that why it doesn't work? I made a copy of the folder and put it in the Finale folder at the same level as finale 26, but that didn't make it work either.

I did create a completely NEW file and saved it in that same folder, and that seems to work.

Thank you for the helpful videos. I saw that you created 4 bar repeats in 2018. Is that the same process for Finale 26?

Yep, it's exactly the same process. Here's the video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xXyiz65noHWIiJg

I use v26 on a mac, I cannot get Handwritten Style to change. My goal is to create a bunch of custom Rehearsal Marks that I always use. I've opened the Handwritten Style.musx under Finale 26 > Music Files > Document Styles, created a new Rehearsal Mark called "Intro", saved the musx (I did not get an error sign). When I create a new doc, with the handwritten style, the "Intro" Rehearsal Mark is not there. I don't know what step I'm skipping. I checked the preferences and made sure the document style folder is correct and it is. please help!

One thing I learned since posting this video is that on macOS, there are actually 2 different folders called Finale 26 with document styles. Why? I don't know. But odds are you're likely editing the wrong document. (I've also made this mistake). Here's the full path of the right folder on my computer. The easiest way to get there in Finder is to copy this path, Go > Go to Folder… (⌘⇧G), and paste the path and hit Go. /Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 26/Music Files/Document Styles Hope this helps!

@@nickmazuk Unfortunately, That's the folder i've been using. It still won't change anything but the file "Handwritten Style.musx" I mad a custom "Intro" rehearsal mark in that file, save it, but when I make a new file it is not available.

This is tremendous. Except when I got to Application support, there were four Finales none current. WHen I oopened the most current and double-clicked Engraver styles, it opened a machone language fdile. I'm on a Mac and Finale has not performed well on the current system. I'm obviously not as computer savvy as I need to be.

Thanks for the videos! There's a couple of things in each where it's helped me speed things up. I figured out that I could take my template I've been using and swap it for the Engraver file in the library and end up with everything as I want it for each new file. However, the biggest downfall I can see is that there are several staves that I use for multiple voices (Flute 1/2) that are linked to separate parts. When I create a new file, I would have to regenerate my part linking. Any ideas on how to avoid having to do this or automate it? It would be helpful be able to start from scratch via the setup wizard because I rarely use the exact same ensemble but regenerating linked parts that are split is also a pain. Ideas?

Totally understandable. Right now I only know of redoing everything by hand, though after a couple times, I can do an entire orchestral score this way in 10-12 minutes. Eventually I want to write a JW Lua script that will do it automatically, but I have other scripts to write first.

A script would be fantastic! However, I know how long a todo list can be. Best of luck with it!

Thanks for the great video! At last I could set the default page size to DIN-A4. I do not know how many 1000 of times I should do it manualy...

In your document style, you should be able to change both the score size and the part size. You can go to Document > Page Format > Score… or Document > Page Format > Parts… You may have to redefine all the pages with the Page Layout tool if it still doesn't work. Is this what you tried? Let me know if this works for you (or doesn't).

@@nickmazuk Yes, this is what I did and it worked. Firstly I changed the score page size with the layout tool, but going to the document options/page format did indeed the trick for both score and parts! Thank you!

For some reason, the document layout carry over, but anything I change in the expression tool, articulation tool, etc... doesn't carry over the new document. I have finale v26 and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
@nickmazuk

To be honest, I don't know. What kind of changes are you making in the expression and articulation tools? Also, just to double-check, can you go to your Finale preferences and see where it says your document styles are located? On a Mac this is Finale > Preferences > Folders > Document Styles. Double-check that that file is the same as the one you're editing. I don't think that's the problem because the layout is already updating, but it good to double-check.

I can’t find the document style on a PC

For Finale v26, I believe the default location is C:\Program Files\MakeMusic\Finale\26\Music Files\Document Styles. I'm on a Mac so I can't double check that. But if that doesn't work for you, the easiest way to find the location for sure is to go to Finale > Preferences > Folders to see where your document styles are saved.
